All true, but it does reflect the actual experience of members of this forum. If that many folks had problems it is worth noting, and a factor as to whether one wants a 1911 or another SA that does not have the sensitivity to magazines and ammunition that the 1911 does.
The sample does reflect my own experience and the experience of a couple of friends who do use 1911s.
I suspect that if the sample were 1000 the same arguments would be used in defense of the 1911.
I do not think any other gun handles and shoots as well as a 1911, but OTB reliability is not as good as other modern handguns. I hear of very few problems with Sigs, H&K, and Glocks which are used extensively here by law enforcement.
I would expect to have problems with any brand, excluding custom, of 1911 OTB. It might be that I would get lucky, but not so far.
