At the risk of sounding contradicting to my thread on being a, "Pessimistic Optimist," I would say that you are a bit jumpy and need to tone it down. Now with that said, I WASN'T THEIR. I can Monday morning quarter back it all day long, but the fact is, it's your life and not mine. So do what you think is best. If you feel like their is a potential lethal force threat, and it is appropriate, then draw your weapon.
Now if you see a bad guy in front of you with a weapon then it would be nice to develop a condition response to draw your weapon, almost automatically. However that was not the case here.
I'm not concerned that you drew your weapon in either case. I am a bit concerned that there was not decision or thought process involved. You may be a little to quick to draw your weapon, but that doesn't mean disregard things that are potential threats. But again I wasn't their and I would rather see it in use early than you think to use it too late. I'm curious how much time you have spent drawing that gun? I'm going to guess a lot of time.
