Perfectly legal to carry a rifle, or a fixed blade, here :)

Locks do fail - but when you're cutting, you're not putting the stress on the lock. You're putting it on the stop pin. To each their own, I prefer the strongest lock I can get, but in all reality a slip joint would do the job for most daily things if you want to be technical. If I were to buy a folder with absolute intent of only using a SD knife, it would be assisted, and I'd also grind a wave feature on the blade - it would be one where the least input from the user would open the knife.

I carry my folder in the left pocket, a 1911 strong side hip, 1 reload in the left pocket, cell in the left pocket, and a fixed behind my left hip.
