As far as I know there have not been any Open Carry demonstrations marching down the street waving their guns around or strutting down the street guns strapped to their hip. The news articles I have read about the OC picnics have all been positive. Until people get used to seeing guns on peoples hips again there will be LEO encounters. Rarely do I hear of a gun carrier acting poorly. These encounters often lead to department policy being written for LEO to follow. Remember open carry is not about gaining favor some new mode of carry or establishing a new tradition. As I have said before it is about taking back ground we have lost. There was a time not so long ago when open carry was not frowned upon any more than we frown upon giggling pubescent girls and testosterone driven males operating two ton weapons of mass destruction because open carry was just as common as teenage drivers are today. It was a given that most people open carrying were average normal law abiding citizens because they were. Just as they are today. In time that will be the case again but only if people open carry regularly.
As far as the cracks folks make about the old west I agree with them. I'd love to see us be like the old west when everyone has guns and there was far fewer per capita assaults, fewer per capita assaults with deadly weapons, fewer per capita murders, fewer per capita robberies, fewer per capita rapes? A time of less crime. A time when people were polite and respectful of each other. How is that a bad thing?
