A personal thought: Does any serious shooter really ever rely on a safety? My/our opinion is that the only really reliable safety is the connection between the brain and the trigger finger. Mechanical safeties, regardless of the type, are only a very poor back up for those who are forgetful, drunk or careless; and they shouldn't be handling a gun at all.

First, welcome to the forum! And it's never offensive to ask questions; that's what it's all about. I always believed that the only stupid question is the one that you
don't ask!
On to the LCP. It's a great little compact pistol. Be aware that if you're serial number starts with 370-xxxxx there is a recall on the unit.
I agree with your premise that the best safety is your personal awareness and familiarity with the firearm. As you know, the LCP does not have a safety per se, but it does have that long trigger pull for each shot. That, hopefully, will give you time to assess whether you really want to pull that trigger or not.
Most of my pistols do not have a safety- they are either double action, or they have a de-cocking ability. Just my Ruger Mark II has a safety because it's single action only, and since it's a competition only gun (for me), I never use the safety.
That said, I think you should put a lot of ammo throught the LCP, and become very familiar with it. Stay safe, and keep asking the questions. There are many great forum members here, most with incredible expertise.
BTW, you
should do the recall if you're affected, as Ruger will give you a free magazine for your trouble. And since you're in Arizona, it shouldn't be too much of a turnaround time. Are you near Prescott?
