I'm not a huge Ruger fan as I've always found their handguns to be a bit "clunky" for my tastes, but I've always felt that they build an extremely reliable firearm. In CAS circles, if you want a revolver you can beat to death, you shoot a Ruger as they will take just about any punishment you can dish out. I seriously don't believe that ANY company could have handled this recall more efficiently than Ruger has. Granted, it would be best if a recall were never needed but Ruger deserves kudos for how they have handled the recall.
Timeline:
February 2, 2008 -- Ruger annnounces new LCP pistol
March 10th, 2008 -- I pick up my LCP from my dealer and
post here
October 29th, 2008 -- Ruger announces recall -- I start this thread, fill out online form at Ruger's web site and receive confirmation email from Ruger
November 25th or 26th, 2008 -- I received my mailer box with instructions to call Ruger to arrange pick-up
December 1st, 2008 -- I call Ruger and leave message
December 2nd, 2008 -- Receive call back from Ruger
December 3rd, 2008 -- UPS picks up LCP
December 10th, 2008 -- UPS returns repaired LCP
I received my LCP back today with a LCP hat, an extra magazine, problem that forced recall corrected, plus they made the frame modification to prevent empties from being dented.
While I may not purchase any other Ruger handgun as I still find most of their line "clunky", I can find no fault with the company in how they have handled this situation. It took much longer for Ford to get the parts to repair the fire-starting windshield motor on my truck.
