This depends on the firearm as well. Some gun may not pull back smooth or the magazine well may get clogged and your magazine might not insert properly.
But on a quality firearm, this will not be an issue. However, that said, you should clean your lifeline more often than every 1000 rounds.
I clean my guns everytime I shoot, but if I don't shoot for a while, I will limit this to once a week as I like to check for loose parts (if any) as well as clean out the lint I have gathered while carrying.
I find cleaning guns very relaxing and will wipe down the gun, field strip clean or full strip clean (only once a year) as often as I can. There is nothing like putting in a movie and lining up 20+ handguns and going to work on my babies.
However, I do not enjoy cleaning my rifles.....
