That makes more sense then. I thought that 5-7 thousandth of a meter would not even be a visible change. Inches. That makes sense. 9 MM vs. .45, got it. |

*sigh*
Myth #1 - The "One-shot stop" Myth #2 - Stopping power. Myth #3 - More velocity = Better handgun round. Fact #1 - Google is your FRIEND. Fact #2 - The Search function here works. Fact #3 - Not taking the time to do your own research before posting the most debated question in firearms history speaks volumes. |

Look at this way. How many people can we count on our hands are walking around with 9mm bullets lodged in them than compared to the people with .40 an .45 bullets? You'll find that not many people are walking around with .40 and .45.
However, a 9mm is pretty good for self-defense if you get a nice, hollow point, high grain cartridge. And, it is easier to handle to recoil. What I did was went to a gun range where they rented out guns. I just started at 9mm and worked my way up to .45acp. I am pretty comfortable with .40 and don't mind using .380. |

IMHO
Once you have a round that performs (penetration, expansion etc...) Shot placement is EVERYTHING. A 9mm to the heart is just as good as a .45 to the heart. For most handgun calibers there are stories of people getting shot multiple times and not being effective. Hand guns are terrible stoppers. It usually takes several rounds no matter what you are carrying. Carry what ever you shoot best. |

Let us not forget the 5.7x28 round too. That's the only one that guy from the Splilnter Cell games uses, so you know they're reliable!

How about this - about 85% of people shot with a handgun who get effective medical treatment within the Golden Hour survive. Doesn't matter what caliber they got shot with. The problem with these types of caliber "discussions" is that they don't take place within the correct context. People think that having a bigger round means a more effective round. This discussion really requires a better understanding of terminal ballistics than most people have taken the time to learn. The question people should be asking is "what factors affect ammunition selection" rather than "what round is more effective"... |
