New addition - Sig P226 SCT in 9mm

Took the plunge today and brought home a brand new (built 9/25/07) Sig P226 SCT.

Until I can get my own pics, I'll steal Sig's:

Have to wait until tomorrow to hit the range with it, though. Stripped it, cleaned it and lubed it. Now, it's mocking me from the safe.....

I hate it when they do that!

I'm torn between the 229 SCT and 229 Elite, I can't figure our which is better, getting the SRT from the get go, or getting for higher cap mags and doing the SRT myself....

The P226 is an excellent gun... I'm sure you will have many years together.

Nice gun.

Now that I have one Sig, I want more. They're like crack.

That's the nice thing about Sigs...they don't crack ;-)

I have a P230, a P226(40), a P228, and a P220.

The 228 is a very smooth shooting pistol as is the 220, which is my CCW gun most of the time.

Nice purchase Matt - I'll stick my neck out and say that you have a pleasurable shoot session ahead

My 226 ST is EDC, the 228 gets much use for practice and the 220 is a very good .45 platform for me. Love em all.

Well, the 226 stopped mocking me from the safe this morning.... :)

Went to the range with an assortment of ammo - 250 rounds of Remingtion / UMC 115gr ball, some Federal HST 124gr +p JHP and some HST 147gr JHP.

Feeding / firing / extraction / ejection was utterly boring. Every single time the trigger was pulled, the gun went bang, the brass went flying, and the next round went into the chamber with no fuss. Exactly what I like to see a pistol do. And pretty much what I expected from a Sig.

It will take me some time to get used to the DA/SA transition again. I spent some time practicing DA shots, and it is coming along.

The TruGlo TFO front sight is quite nice. Just enough overhead light in the shooting booth to make it pop nicely against the target. Very easy to acquire for follow-up shots.

The 20 round magazines are nice, but I think I'll snag a flush fit for carry with a 20 rounder on the belt.

The pistol was quite accurate. Easily printed two full 20 round magazines inside a 3" circle at 21 feet. Shot a touch up and right at first, adjusted my grip a bit and sorted that right out.

A couple issues did crop up, both of which are shooter related:

1. Need to get used to the trigger reset. It is a bit longer than the reset on my M&P, and I short-stroked the trigger a couple times during rapid fire. No worries here, just need to shoot it some more. Oh, hurt me.

2. I have a tendency to ride the slide release. Just force of habit from the 1911 - the thumb just wants to sneak up there of it's own volition. Again, the cure would seem to be to shoot it some more.

Breakdown on the Sigs is very easy. Clear the pistol, lock the slide back, re-check for clear, rotate the takedown lever down, ease the slide forward and off the gun. Remove the spring and guide, and pull the barrel out. Piece of cake.

Going to devote some time to dry-fire practice this evening, and might hit the range again tomorrow.

Matt

There ya go Matt - painless eh

True enough, the manual of arms takes a wee bit of familiarization - practice does that as I think you're finding already.

Trigger reset - yep - another thing to accomodate and ... the DA/SA aspect - I put in a lot of practice with mine on DA initially - shoot one, decock - shoot again etc. Then progress to double taps - so that DA to SA transition can be aquired.

These days I don't find I notice that a whole lot any more but am not surprised if my first shot goes a tad high and left ... not enough to worry about tho for me.

Take down - yeah, that's a breeze
