I love my bobtail Commanders... Brown Class A, Colt 1991 (Ned), and my latest, a Colt Lightweight XSE Commander (by EGW - no photos of this yet.)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My #1 1911 choice for a CCW. Awesome feel, 9 rnds w/full cap mags, great concealability, 4.25" bbl for keeping velocity up (important with .45acp). I love'em! ![]()

Watch it now. It usually starts with one but ends with many.

Jess at OnTarget Custom Gunworks.
He built my current CCW, 5" Springfield. All Ed Brown and Wilson Combat internals, SA OEM barrel and EGW bushing. Sights are a Yost rear and Kings front. He checkered the frontstrap for me and stripped and blued it. Very nice work. Good prices and an eight month turn around. For a full build, that's pretty good time. I supplied the pistol (G.I.) and parts, he charged about $800 for all the work.
Any particular reason you're sold on a Commander? |

Already have a 3" and a 5" barrel 1911. Like the shorter barrels for CCW, even though its only 3/4".

does anyone know if this can be done on an alum. frame Kimber Pro Carry II, I am considering this gun due to the lightweight of it and being an EDC my current Springer Loaded Gov. is a tad on the heavy side

It can be done to aluminum. At the same time you have that done, you should consider having a steel feed ramp installed (EGW does this verrry well!) if you want the ultimate in feed ramp durability with an aluminum frame. I sent my aluminum framed Colt Lightweight XSE Commander to EGW for bobtail, night sights, dehorning, EGW bushing & plug, EGW steel feedramp insert, and refinishing the aluminum frame in warm satin nickel. Came out incredible.
You will want to refinish the aluminum frame after the bobtail cut... hard chrome would probably be the best bet and this will put a semi-durable surface in the feed ramp should you choose not to have a steel ramp inserted. Other good choices are nickel, re-anodizing (although you run the risk of melting the frame when re-anodizing), NP3.
