Condition code for a 1911?
Im assuming this is military terminology, but what are these conditions I hear people refer to when discussing whether or not the gun is loaded, chambered, or the safety is on.
I think I gather that condition 1 is cocked and locked, and condition 0 is cocked and unlocked. Thats all Ive figured out so far, and those might not even be right. |

As an addendum, in general, Condition One is preferred for 1911 carry. Condition Two is an accident waiting to happen. Some people carry in Condition Three, but not many, and that forces them to become familiar with the 'Israeli draw'.

Or not at all.
There's no valid reason to carry or store a 1911 in condition 2.

Captain Crunch is right, there is no reason to carry one in condition 2. |

Good question, great responses. A follow-up, then...
While I LOVE the two 1911's I have, I'm very uncomfortable carrying in condition one. Is this silly? Should I lump it and simply get used to it? Something about DA triggers make me feel more comfortable as relates to regular CC.

Once I realized the safty was not slipping to "fire" and waiting to go off, I started carrying condition one and have never had an issue, weather on duty or off.
