It's about as close a version of a true 1911 that you'll find. It's named 1991 for the year it came out. I picked up a used matte stainless for my nephew, the hammer is a bit of center and the trigger is plastic. I advised him to change them out, he has yet to do it but it go bang every time the trigger is pulled.

Nice piece.

My buddy who really got me into shooting has one of these. Replacing that plastic trigger brought a real smile to his face, though he wished he'd done it many years prior.

Congratulations, you have found one of Colt's best kept secrets.

The M1991A1s are some of my favorites and some of the best built Colt's around. The serial number on these pistols picked up were the USGI Colt's stopped back in 1945, if you call Colt, they will give you the year of manufacturer, 1-800-962-2658. Now that you have one, you may start to notice the many variations of the M1991A1 that Colt produced. If you have an early example, it's parkerized, if it was made after 1994 it's matte blue.

The M1991A1s were made from 1991 to approximately 2002.

Nice find. I had one of the stainless models and it was a great shooter. '91's are great guns as is or the perfect base for a custom project ... don't think I'd ever call one a "beater" though.

I really like the uncluttered look of a basic 1911 pistol.

Are those grips Larry Davidson's G-10 Horned Lizard w/bar cuts? That's what they look like. How do you like them? I've got Horned Lizards on a bobtail 1911 and think that they make the gun easier to control, and they don't chew up my hands nor my clothing. I wonder about the bar cuts though...how much they help.

Do I even want to know what you were doing in Vietnam in 1991?!
