I've carried a Kel-Tec P3AT for 4 years, and yes - I've had multiple Failure to Fire / Failure to Feed issues. This is my BUG, and I just have to go on faith that it wont take a dump in the exact moment that I need it.
[edit: yes, I've done all the KTOG "fluff and buffs" etc.]

I'm seriously tempted to sell it and pick up one of these Rugers.

Sounds like what happened with my Kel-Tec P11. I experienced the same thing. Broke it all down and found that my trigger bar had broke. Kel-Tec sent me a new one and I replaced it but the gun was never right after that. Hope everything works out.

It's never comforting to hear about failures in a gun I own or plan to own; hopefully it's just an isolated incident.

I also had a P3AT that I carried, but it was difficult to field strip and clean. I miss it for the size and light weight, so the LCP looks like it would fill the bill for a replacement carry piece. Hopefully it will be easier to field strip and be just as reliable as my old P3AT.

There's no shortage of them in my town. They had about 5 of them at the store when I bought my SR9. IIRC they were priced at $299.

I picked up one yesterday afternoon. It had a better fit and finish than the kel-tec. I didn't put 200 rounds though, only about 50. It fed and ejected everything that I put in it- CCI brass and Gold Dots. I have also never seen a gun that threw brass as far either. I fired a couple of rounds and then looked to my right to see where the brass went. I was quite surprised to suddenly see two pieces of brass hit the ground 30 feet away. They must have gone up in the air 15 feet, suffice it to say there were no ejection problems. So far I have been pretty impressed with this little gun, but it was tough to find. The store had it in for 5 hours before I picked it up.

Range Report

Fishing Camp was the first opportunity I had to fire my new LCP. I'll start by saying that I was very impressed with this little gun. The recoil is very mild compared to what I was expecting. The gun is reasonably accurate considering it's size...it'll get the job done at 5-7 yards. It's not gonna shoot the same hole every time but i had no problem shooting a sub center of mass group at 7 yards. I only put 112 rounds through it, 100 American Eagle (junk) practice ammo and 12 Gold Dots (2 mags). The gun functioned flawlessly.

Wow!!! Caddisflinger was definitely right on that one. I couldn't find a single piece of brass out of the first box I fired. I had a friend stand behind me and watch where the spent cases were flying. The gun flung brass at least 30 feet away.

Anyway, I am very pleased with this gun. It serves it's purpose very well. It's small enough for pocket carry, it is accurate enough to be used as a defense weapon, recoil is manageable, and it functions flawlessly. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I would like to try one. I have to admit that my P3AT has not had a single problem. I have only shot it about 200 rounds, but so far it is flawless. It does cause smileys on the nose of HPs, but that doesn't affect the functioning.

Guns like the new Ruger and the KTs are carry a lot and shoot little for me.

Regards,
Jerry
