I'm not terribly happy about this, but at least Ruger is taking care of it.

A few SR9 owners have stated that they would only use the manual safety as they were holstering their gun, then they'd take it off while it was in the holster and present that gun as if it were DAO. So, it would be possible for their SR9 to slip out of it's holster, with a round in the chamber and the safety off.

I'm glad I read this, as a buddy of mine at work has one. I will be sure to tell him.

Ruger SR9 recall

We got notice yesterday from our distributor that the SR9 is being recalled.

We have to go through our 4473 records and contact every person who bought one about this. You can read about it here:

Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008

Ruger - SR9™ Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice

Week turn around is not bad at all. BUT now they say that they do not have the parts yet so it will be a least mid June before the start shipping out return boxes.

Plus now my SR9 is broken. I can't even shoot it until they fix it.

No big deal for me, fortunately, as I routinely use the manual safety. The delay actually helps me.

From another forum...

Somebody asked one of the customer service/tech honchos in Prescott about the delay in the recall. Here's the response:

Quote:
"We are currently waiting for the new parts to come in from 2 outside vendors. One is a stamping that required new tooling and the other is a molded part which also required new tooling. We will start the retrofit as soon as these parts arrive. I am extremely sorry for the delay. We hope to get these parts sometime in June"
Sounds like the trigger bar and maybe the fire control housing?

is it wrong that i still shoot mine?

REMEMBER, DO NOT LOAD OR FIRE YOUR PISTOL UNTIL IT HAS BEEN FACTORY RETROFITTED WITH NEW PARTS! IF YOU MUST FIRE YOUR PISTOL, BE SURE TO KEEP THE MANUAL SAFETY IN THE 'ON' OR 'SAFE' POSITION EXCEPT WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY FIRING

Imagine that a round chambered and the saftey off and a dropped gun, it went boom who woulda thunk?

With the warning kept in mind i don't feel the least bit guilty still taking it to the range for practice keeping in mind standard firing line procedure is safe direction
unloaded and open until ready to fire
load mag
slide into battery
fire until empty or drop mag clear chamber
safe direction open and empty

anyone see an issue with that one? i d k why im even asking cause i really don't.

carry is another thing and won't be until retrofit but honestly how is that issue identified do owners really drop weapons off of ladders or was it identified in inhouse testing by ruger?
