I got into a slight argument elsewhere about my carry of the SR9.

The gun MIGHT go off if dropped with the safety off. While announcing the problem and recall, Ruger also stated that the gun will NOT go off if dropped while the safety is on. A lot of folks seem to ignore that bit.

I carry the gun with the safety on unless I'm about to pull the trigger, or disassemble the gun. I rely on the safety between my ears first and foremost, rather that those on the gun. The Four Rules are law. Manual and internal safeties are added insurance.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard the issue may have come to light during the CA drop tests.

So if you shoot the gun and drop it and it goes bang is that a machinegun since technically you fired it twice with only one pull of the trigger

Doesn't someone have to prove 'intent'?

My friend bought an SR9 awhile ago and his gun does fall under the recall. Ruger told him in May they were sending a box to return the gun and still a no go. he called them and they said a part was on back-order and it would be awhile before they were ready for his gun???

Ruger pushed the recall back to...about now. Last I've heard, they've finalized the redesign and they're starting to receive parts. I believe guns currently submitted for other work will get the new parts first, then they'll start sending boxes out according to recall sign up via Web site (or phone in). I THINK boxes are going out as we speak.

Ugh. Recall was announced many moons ago, and I registered on the Web site at that time.

I JUST NOW got something in the mail from Ruger announcing the recall.

I hope to heck they don't take this long for the recall work.

Update

I've seen a post elsewhere from someone claiming to have received their SR9 back after the recall work. No pics or other reports to corroborate.

The person stated their entire slide was replaced, but that was for another defect. The key thing is he states his new trigger is like a Glock/XD trigger, with the safety bit on the trigger itself.

Not sure how I feel about that.

The owner also stated that on dry fire, his trigger felt less gritty, but a little heavier.

I definitely don't like that, as my trigger was never gritty to begin with, and my trigger pull is already heavier than I'd like.

This person's gun was already at Ruger for other work, so hopefully, those who've had their guns in with Ruger already are starting to get their SR9's back.

Update

It's official...the SR9 is now fully a Glock ripoff: http://ruger.com/SR9Recall/PDF/7-08Update.pdf

I've seen two brief reviews of the new trigger by a couple of folks who've gotten their guns back. One says it's smoother, but a little heavier. Another one simply says, "...the new trigger is good."

I'll try to reserve judgment, but I'm not terribly optimistic.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure how I feel about the new trigger either. And who knows when I will get a box to send it back!

that is disheartening

One of the reasons i bought the ruger was the lack of the 2 part safety trigger. now i am kinda thinking i might as well have bought a glock. i am not starting a fight or bad mouthing but that was a consideration for me i guess i will just be patiently waiting for my shipping box and see what its actually like in real life. nice to hear the process is moving though.
