My personal threshold has been met when I fired Corbon's 165 grain +P .45 ACP ammo out of my Star PD.

OUCH! The problem wasn't so much the harsh recoil (which it was), but rather that the grip tang of the Star points downward. Firing a full magazine (six rounds) of the Corbon caused the tang to gun to cut a groove into the flesh of my hand thanks to the pounding of that round.....

....I say again.....OUCH!!

I'm currently shooting three different .40 S&W's. I'll shoot 100-150 rounds thru each at each range session. I find no problem with my Ruger 944, or my new CZ 40P. I also have a Glock 23 and it is the hardest on my hand. I think the repeated DAO has some bearing. OTOH, as I mentioned in an earlier thread, I just got rid of a Taurus .357 that beat me up good. Howevere, I used to shoot a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 and could shoot it all day. A lot depends, obviously, on the platform.

When I was shopping for a carry piece a few weeks ago, I was pretty much decided on the Kahr K40. I had shot a small Glock in .40, and figured the steel Kahr would be that much better. Fortunately the shop had one available to rent, so I put a box of WWB downrange with it. Turns out it is just more than I want to deal with on a regular basis, so I bought the K9.

I've never thought of myself as recoil sensitive; I can shoot .45ACP +P out of 1911s or my .45LC Blackhawk with some pretty stout reloads all day. That little K40 was just more uncomfortable - like someone else said, a "bite" instead of a "push."

Rifle wise, I just had the stock cut and a Decelerator pad installed on a 300WSM Winchester M70; best money I have ever spent on a gun mod! Really made it a different rifle to shoot - unbelievable the difference a good pad or set of grips can make.

It's all relative. Ya ain't lived until you've felt the recoil of a 120mm "warshot" HEAT round going downrange. WHOOHOO!! :D

The only time I hit my pain threshhold was when I fired 400 rounds of 7.62x54 out of a Nagant carbine in about 4 hours, or when I stupidly shot the Remington "44 special" (loaded to mag specs) LSWC loads out of my 18 ounce snub. I got up to handling half a box at a time of that stuff, and now it's a pussycat with more reasonable loadings.

First day I got my Sig 226 in .357, I did almost 1k rounds. The cost hurt more than the recoil. Ditto when I picked up my .45 USP.

My thumbs give out from loading mags long before anything else.

No problems shooting the .44mag. Iown. SA style Ruger. The Anocanda I tried did feel right with the DA type grip. I can shoot it, but didn't like the accuracy for me. I shoot .40 S&W alot. Downright mild in the HK, but a bit more violent in the lightweight PT140. All in all , I can shoot most heavier recoiling calibers, including my 06 in a 6 lb. bolt gun. Some are more pleasant than others.

Haha - true Robert - even in fact with mag loading gizmo's - that aspect is often the limiting factor.

Well and sometimes the realization of how many dollars have sped down the barrel too

5 rounds of .308, 168gr Match, through a Lone Eagle SSP (12" barrel), was about my max. For 100 yd accuracy, 3 rounds was really pushing it! .50AE (300gr @ 1375fps)was a plinker, by comparison!

In a pistol, 10 rounds of Corbon's 135+p in 40 S&W and a cylinder full of 454 full power rounds. Nothing else even comes to mind.

In a rifle, 45-70 rounds out of a 6 pound Ruger single shot and the 458 SOCOM rounds out of an AR-15 carbine with collapsable stock.

The K40 is quite a little pocket rocket - only frequent shooting got me somewhat used to it, and I still never liked the kick. I can shoot my .45 auto USPc with no problem.

I can shoot around 3 rounds out of a .44 Magnum and then I'm a flinch-o-matic.

I love shooting my Mosin M44, but one blast from a 10 gauge was one too many. The giant bruise that thing left looked like Mike Tyson punched me across the room.

That Bud White......he scares me.
