Just preference, I guess. I am a new shooter and I like the fact that my XD has the grip safety. I think more than anything, it's an extra safety that helps eliminate the possibility of an AD.

I realize that there are plenty of people on this board who don't use a gun w/a grip safety. I just think it seems like a genius safety feature with almost no downside.

Funny how John M. Browning saw no need for a grip safety on the Hi-Power... the next evolution from the 1911.

He started the grip safety with his 1910 then moved on the to the 1911. I like the grip safety on my FN 1910 but seldom shoot it any more for several obvious reasons.

Cylinder and Slide's Adventurer in 9mm. Shortest (in height) 1911 out there to my knowledge. Their website is down right now, give it a few hours before you check.

CAG- thanks for the link, but it hasn't worked for the last 12 hours. Maybe I will try again later today.

+1. XD or any subcompact 1911 in 9mm are about all your options.

Well the size may be a little larger and the grip safety is probably not the kind you had in mind but have you considered a HK p7?

I like where your head's at!

Good "out of the box" thinking on that one.
