That Colt Defender seems okay for pocket carry, right?

Defender - Pocket

I believe the Defender is too large for pocket carry. When loaded with 7+1 rounds the 24 ounce empty weight goes up to about 28 ounces loaded weight. I think that is a little too much weight in a pocket. The Defender seems to work best in belt carry for me.

There aren't too many .45s that fit easily in a pocket. Most pocket guns are .32, .380, .38 special or 9mm. However, Kahr has introduced a couple of polymer frame small .45s, the P45 and the PM45. I believe the PM45, which is the smallest, would fit in a pocket without too much difficulty.

The Ruger 345 is still a big gun, but not near as clunky as the other Rugers. I have a Glock 30 that is a great gun. You might want to look for the 30SF if the grip feels better to you. 1911s aren't generally as reliable, but that is not the topic of this discussion. So...

Glock 30 or 30SF
Glock 36
Compact or Subcompact 1911
Springfield XD45
Smith & Wesson M&P 45

Lots of choices out there. Fondle some and see what you like.

Maybe I will just keep my SP101 as it cannot jam. I am always worried about that even though I shouldn't be, when I had the Ruger P90 .45. Never had a problem with it but just knowing that it could jam.....I could clear it but perhaps would not have time in a situation. So the SP101 is good for now, I guess. Thanks to all.

Glock subcompacts (26, 27, 29, 30, 33, and 39), everything from 9mm to .45ACP. Great size and Glock's reliability... what more can you ask for?

Speaking for myself only compact and .45 are not good bedfellows . For me i like a full sized 1911 for the .45 tho a commander or sig 220 are fine also . The wife disagrees in the sense her every day carry is a detonics and has been for over 20 years . It is a proven pistol by any standard . She shoots it well , in fact back when she carried a badge she qualified with it on the duty gun course rather than the off duty gun course and shot in the mid 80%s . I bought it about 1980 or so ( if memory serves me correctly ) at a heck of a price for the time , about what i could have bought an hk 91 or 93 rifle for . I just had to have it lol . Over the years i have added 800 to 1k in gun smithing to it ( counting refinishes as it is a early 2nd gen carbon for detonics nutz ) . Ill say this the hammer , barrel , recoil system , and lockup are all still stock . Or mostly so . However i really consider a sub compact .45 such as the detonics and others nowdays akin to putting your pickup camper on a semi tractor . It can work , but there are cheaper ways to get the same thing that likely will work better in the end .

Get the Ruger KP345. It will surprise you with how accurate it is. The trigger, in both SA and DA modes, is great. Mine eats everything 100% of the time. Sights, controls, everything on this gun is designed to be flat and snag-free.

I prefer the decock only model, the KP345DPR. The decock lever drops the hammer and then it returns to the 'go' position. There is no safety lever to mess with. Just draw and pull the trigger.
