This is a very nice reliable Weapon. It`s easy to conceal, goes BANG everytime and hits what you`re aiming at. What more could anyone ask for?. Try one out and see. It`s my new hot weather everyday carry now. Please carry safe and always be aware of your surroundings. Best, hal

I ordered the 642 CT and it did come with the LG305. I prefer the shorter 405 as I think it conceals better so my dealer swapped them out for me. Great pocket carry w/a Mika.
A NYC police woman told me they use the 642 as a BUG. |

Well i got my 642 today. Now i just have to send the Grip to CT to swap it for the 405. Three more questions and I'll shut up...lol
Do I need to lube the cylinder or anything on it prior to putting it to use? Should I be concerned with any cleaners hurting the aluminum frame? Why does the trigger on all the new S&W revolvers look corroded or tarnished? Last edited by Ace12; May 19th, 2008 at 11:27 PM. |

Ace; you'll have to understand (and accept) the fact that the clear coat finish on the aluminum frame will eventually start to rub off in spots. I'd recommend you keep cleaners off the frame as much as possible on only wipe it down with a lightly oiled rag.
The only thing I don't like about my 642 is that the clear coat will be the first thing to show wear if you actually carry/use your gun and it'll show up first along the backstrap. You can send them back to S&W for new finish but that's about it. there are very few finishes you can put on that particular gun. It's the price you pay for having the weight reduced. If you carry it alot it'll show it but that's what they're for. If you just wanted it for "pretty", you should get the stainless version (640) have it bead blasted and then don't carry it too much and it'll be georgeous!

I have a 642 with CT and I love it so much that I carry it every day all day.
I have been working part time in a local gunshop and have sold quite a few 642's with CT, I feel that the Crimson Trace is a force multplier on the 642. First it makes you quicker to get on target and it makes you more accurate plus you can fire from just out side the pocket without having to bring the gun to eye level. |

I can tell you from experience... never use Tetra Gun Action Blaster or probably any other trichloroethylene based degreasing product, on your gun. It will take the finish off, quick as a wink. I think the coloration on the trigger is from heat treating but someone else can answer that with authority. I personally like that effect, whatever the cause. |

I would never carry a revolver unless it was DAO:
![]() By the time you cock your trigger, I'd have two rounds down range...and my triggers have been worked on and are as smooooth as glass. Back on topic: Ace12: The CT grips just plain suck. At least that was my experience. I've tried wood, CT, badger...etc. The best grip is Hogue in my book...: ![]()

If you are concerned about not having a hammer on the 642, have a look at the 638. It has a bobbed hammer. I think that that the 638 would give you the best of both worlds.
