First, if you are comfortable with it then carry a .22LR

I would keep track of how many FTF you have with rimfire vs. centerfire.

I personally don't carry anything smaller than .380.

That said I'm going to get a bag of Popcorn and a 48 oz Bladder Buster of Coke and enjoy the show.

A .22LR in your hand is better than having a .45 ACP sitting in your night stand at home in a SD encounter on the street....Anygun is better than only your cell Phone!

Would not be my first choice! But at least you are making the choice to carry Something!

I'll take Peanut M&M's POR FAVOR!

All that being said, WHY go with a P22? You've got small frame revolvers, plus semi-automatics from Kahr, NAA, Keltec, Glock; Sig, Ruger and others that are SMALLER than the P22 and just as light in a much higher caliber.

My wife has a P22 that she uses for plinking and sometimes uses as a back-up; however, it is VERY picky with ammo and everyone else I've ever talked to had the same experience.

What kind of holster doesn't carry the gun well for you?

What position are you carrying it? 3:00? 1:00? 4:00?

Have you tried any other holsters?

How do you dress, and can you change your dress to fit the G-30 better?

Pocket carry a Kel-Tec .380. Nobody will know it's there. Much better than .22, 7 rounds.

When you can untuck a t-shirt, even a ~ 6' 160lb guy can OWB conceal a full size glock with a good belt and high-rise holster. If you have issues with weapons feeling too heavy, try a better belt. Good belts will distribute the weight over your whole waist, not just at the holster.

Some printing will always occur - even with pocket carry - but the trick is to make it not LOOK like a pistol.

A .22 is still effective, though.

You sound like you are thinking of the gun as a talisman. You pull it out, the bad guys run away.

I get to talk to a lot of people who have "street experience", and not from the side of law enforcement.

Many of them aren't all that afraid of getting shot.

They know people who have been shot. They may have been shot themselves.

They know that unless they die right off, they are probably going to be fine in a few weeks.

Oh, sure, they don't want to be shot. Nobody does...but the sight of a gun doesn't make them all that afraid.

Trauma care is available, and it is fast, free and has an excellent success rate if the injuries aren't fatal. Bullet wounds mean street cred.

Carry what you want, but don't be suprised if when you pull the gun, the criminal you drew on isn't impressed.

The upside of a .22 is that you can empty that thing into a target in nothing flat. I'd load up with stingers, though (that's how I keep mine at home for the Mrs, as that is all she can/will shoot). That said, the one time I drew a weapon on a human, I was incredibly relieved I had my 9 rather than my .380 OR my .22.

I can get along just fine with someone who carries a .22, even if I think it's waayyyy down the list of good choices, as long as you don't tell me that it will work because of you'll do head shots.

Hey! Who didn't turn off their cell phone?

Being a former employee (investigator) of a Medical Examiner's office.....i have seen many a dead human with .22 wounds as a cause of death. Some were single shots, some were multiples, suicides and homicides. .22 can AND will get the job done.
NOWbeing the tactically minded CCW holder/gun nut I am I know there are plenty of other small concealable options that are much more powerful and probably reliable weapons for self defense and personal protection. Heck if you are that partial to Walther....look at the PPS (9 or 40) and is probably a little more slim and concealble than the p22.
What if you have multiple assailants and have to empty your .22 in to the first one to stop his threat? I would not trust my safety and those I might have to protect (read family)....to a .22. Especially with a perfectly good and reliable .45 I could easily conceal with a little research into a good holster/belt combo and paying attention to what clothes I wear.
Now...I will step down from the podium and take my seat with the others for the show.

Anybody bring Milk Duds? I love those things.

Here you can have some of mine. Anyone else?

I had a Walther P22. Did it work well? Absolutely.

Did it conceal well? Absolutely.

Was it light and easy to carry? Absolutely.

Did I feel uncomfortable with the caliber? Absolutely.

Did I get rid rid of it so I wouldn't be tempted to carry it? Absolutely.
