The keltec pf9 9mm is very concealable under 300.00 and has 7+1 capacity

I often carry my Walther P-22 as my CCW. It is reliable, has ample power, and I feel safe with it.

I also some time carry a j-frame or a KEL-TEC P-32.

My opinion is that caliber isn't all that important for non-LEO usage. Awareness, ability, and confidence rank higher.

However, I live in a middle income suburb and avoid public housing, bad 'hoods, and don't stay out past 10 p.m.

I think a P-22 is just find in some situations; though so is a N frame.

Consider stingers if you carry it.

I just knew there was someone out there carrying a P22! There is just something about this little pistol that strikes my fancy and 100% (so far) reliability is RARE in a .22 auto.
If I lived in a big city I'd find a way to pack my Glock 30 but I live in a very rural area where violent crime is virtually non-existant and all the gang bangers are on TV. I'm more afraid of roving dogs and rabid foxes than thugs so the P22 will suffice for now. A stainless PPKS does look interesting though!

I've had enough dud .22lr rounds that I'd never consider carrying one for a second. Centerfire ammunition is simply much more reliable than rimfire. It can't be that hard to carry a Glock 30 that you'd rather carry a P22.

If you have a 100% reliable P22, you have one of the few. If you wanna carry that, it's your decision. I believe John Cooper said a gun should be comforting, not comfortable. In the SC summer, I carry a HK P2000sk 9mm in a FIST Kydex IWB with a suede back or an NAA
.32 in a Sparks PCH pocket holster. Like I said, it's your decision. Go with what YOU feel comfortable with.

And Limatunes, I've been on forums for a few years. Your reply to this is one of the best responses I've ever read to this oft asked question. And belated congrats on the Lump!

Non-LEO usage? And pray tell, what is the difference between a police officer having to shoot someone to protect his life, and YOU having to shoot someone to protect your life? If anything, it is MORE important that you have a sufficiently effective weapon, since you generally won't have multiple extra magazines, a radio to call for backup, bulletproof vest, etc.

It always amazes me that people think that they should carry a mousegun because they live in a "safe" area and don't frequent the "hood." I can think of more than one recent shooting incident in broad daylight, in supposedly "safe, middle class" areas (malls, churches, etc.). If you live in such a safe area, why are you carrying a pistol in the first place?

Since a .45 or 9mm is sometimes barely enough, I would tend to disagree with the assertion that a .22 has "ample power," especially out of a pistol barrel.

I suppose there will always be those who like to tempt fate, though. To each his own. I'll rely on proven service calibers, and leave the marginalia for people who think the bad guys are just on TV.

By the way, if there's any question that a .22 is a poor choice for human predators, try using it in a "rabid dog" scenario. The fact that you face a greater threat from a wild animal than from 2 legged predators makes the choice of a .22 even LESS prudent. Rabid animals don't know that they are supposed to run when you pull your pistol, and they are less inclined to be impressed with dinky 40 grain bullets. If you feel that a .22 will stop a rabid or angry large breed dog, then I guess I can only wish you good luck.

And then there are the cases where they haven't run too. Gear up with what you think you can live with. Our very first shooting under the concealed carry law came about in Topeka, Ks when a customer was chatting with a clerk at the stop and rob and a thug came in, stuck a gun in the clerks face and demanded money. The customer drew his Springfield XD .40, pointed it at the thug and demanded he drop his gun. Thug declined the offer, spun towards the customer to shoot the customer who then shot the thug before he could get a shot off.

Here's a link to that occurance. Concealed carry permit holder shoots suspect - KTKA.com

I wouldn't want a .22 in that situation.

Ah the law...........

Once again the liberal media grudgingly reports on a justified shooting by saying, "Concealed weapons advocates said Mah did the right thing". Add to this that the CCW holder, "likely won't be charged".
I was told during the CCW class that here in NC (and likely most states) you WILL be charged with murder and your gun will be confiscated as "evidence" even in the best of circumstances and you'll need to hire a high priced lawyer for your hearing. What a deal!
No need to give the CCW hero an award for putting his life on the line but this is such BS! Even Ms. Assam, who likely saved dozens of lives out in Colorado a few months ago was demonized in the liberal media for having a gun at church!

I like my P22. I don't carry it. Maybe I would if I had the 200 round drum magazine . . .
