Well with a trade in at a local gun shop i ordered a Taurus III .40 cal i really liked the way it felt very simular to a XD SC. I dont know the exact # of the gun but they had a 9mm there that just felt great in the hand.
I had a ol 10/22 that they gave me $175 trade in value on so i walked out the door today for $252.00 i cant wait till wends so i can pick it up along with some practice ammo and some nice hollow points.

Next is picking out a holster and finally doing my CCW class

OK, don't wait that long, but find something that really appeals to you. Remember, you want to be able to talk about how great it is when your wife asks, and be able to brag to your buddies about how your wife got you this great handgun. You'll really impress her with that approach.

[Just saw I was late with my reply -- it always helps to read page 2! Good trade on the 10/22!]

Put the money down towards the XD, don't settle for anything else or you will be second guessing youself and never be happy with any deal.

Agreed. You are less than $200 away from a brand new XD9. If the SC is more money, go for the Compact instead.

Remember . . . . Glocks suck. XD's rock! (poking fun here at the Block guys)

I took my Pro 140 out today and ran 100 rounds through it. Flawless and happy with the buy. thought it would be a bit rough on my hands with the .40 cal but im fine. stripped and cleaned it now just to find a place that sells some nice hollow points

Go revolver. You might want to look around for a quality .38, .357, or (if you are feeling lucky punk), a .44.
