Question Thoughts on the Taurus .380 Auto?

Our local gun shop has a used Taurus in 380 Auto. Appears to be in pretty nice condition, but was interested on anyones past experience with this gun and if you like or dislike it.

I'd pass on it.

actually, sixto wouldn't even look at it, because it's a Taurus. Used autos can be lemons no matter who the manufacturer is. If you can get some kind of warranty try it out. Otherwise, you might be buying someone else's problem.

Huh, I didn't know that.

Maybe you're right, I probably wouldn't buy a Taurus, but thats not the reason I'd pass on it.
The major reason is Taurus doesn't make a small 380, so wants the point in buying a largish 380 when I can get a 9mm or 40 in the same sized package?

Then try and service the gun, or purchase something simple like magazines. They just are not worth it, they are not the bargain the sticker price makes them out to be.

With all that said, if the price is really good and I liked the gun, I might buy it just because I can.

Taurus firearms all have a lifetime warranty, regardless of whether or not you are the original buyer, I've heard of some issues with turn around time, but I've never dealt with them.

Depending on the model and price it could be a decent grab, but if I was gonna buy a .380 for carry I'd probably get a Bersa Thunder.

I'd get a new Bersa Thunder 380 before a used Taurus 380.

Like everybody said only reason to get a 380 is if it's in a dinky package if it's same size as the 9mm better off with the 9mm not only a better defense round but it's a cheaper round

I'll have to check the make and model. Even though used, it seemed little used. Is the Bersa Thunder 380 a double action only? This one (Taurus) appears to be a double action/single after first round with the external hammer. I've never thought of a 380 as a super effective defense weapon, but even a 22 is better than nothing. Perhaps with hydra-shock ammo it might perform alright. a .380 has an advantage over the .45 I would prefer in that they are a bit thinner. I carried a Glock .40 Smith&Weak when on duty, but would have preferred the .45 caliber.

Bersa has a .380 Concealed Carry model that is double action only, but the normal thunder models are double/single action.

You can find .45's that aren't much thicker, 1911's come to mind.
