Can I ask what is the benefit of shortening the sight radius on an already short sight radius gun? It seems counter productive for accuracy.

The detonics has the rear sight forward to make it easier to cock on the draw. It is intended to be carried hammer-down. Note the absence of the grip safety.

My Custom

Nothing real fansty.....But its mine and I did all the work myself.....
It's a Smith & Wesson Sigma 40GVE and its a good little gun....
I replace the springs with a Wolf spring kit.....redid the trigger assy...
I brought it from a 12lbs Trigger to a 6lbs trigger.......Polished all metal componnets and polished the barrel too.....also added a Houge rubber grip and next on the list is some TrueGlow nights sites....and that's it.......

Very nice Detonics. Only thing I'd change is remove the rear sight. Excellent job.

Here's my response from the original thread dated 12-5-06 concerning the rear sight:
"As mentioned above the bobtailing was possible because this gun uses a full size mainspring housing. The grip safety is inactive and the sear spring and hammer strut are severely chopped. I was still able to get a nice trigger job at 4.5lbs but it wasn't easy!
As for the rear sight.....well form follows function. Look at the pic of the stock gun, the front sight was .100" tall and difficult to use. Customer wanted a white tritium dot up front on a useable height front sight. Increasing the height of the front sight .075" required the same increase in height of the rear. I fabricated the new sight and mounted it as far to the rear as possible. The wall thickness of the top of the rear of the slide was the limiting factor.
The gun shoots surprisingly well! The high cut made room for about 2 1/2 fingers. It's accurate and controllable, a lot more than it would seem. It kind of feels like a J frame in the hand.
This gun was built with a limited budget constraint. Many of the cosmetic touches normally found on my work are missing. But it will serve its intended purpose well."

Here's mine

I had this Rohrbaugh R9 custimized and is now my daily carry. I love this gun. It's ported, checkered, dimpled sights, chromed and gripped.

Nice looking guns, we had a couple of Rock Islands in my house, probably will be my next gun or a PF9. Heres my nightstand kit, until I get my CC.
