Single-action revolvers for concealed carry?

Do any of y'all carry a single-action revolver as your concealed-carry weapon?

If so:

- which one?
- what holster do you use?
- what is your motivation for the SA solution?

Thanks!

I couldn't see carrying a SA revolver as being that great of an idea... I mean the 1911 is SA, but it also uses the action to cock it...

I think he's talking about the typical cowboy gun (as in the Colt Single Action Army for example).

Many here will tell you it's not your best choice, and they're probably right. Still, a single action revolver properly wielded can be an awesome thing. Anyone who's watched well practiced SASS style competitors can attest to that. And the weapons have protected lives longer than their more modern siblings.

Couple this with the fact that fortunately very few of us will ever need our concealed firearm, and it may not be such a bad thing to include them in your carry rotation. My current examples (in the powerful .45 Long Colt caliber) are of the Italian copy variety, and I probably won't add them to my carry rotation, but if they were the higher quality Colts, I just might.

For a great holster for these, check out Mernickle's PS1-SA as endorsed by John Taffin.

Indeed, something along these lines:

Nope, modern firearms have too many advantages to carry my SAA type Ruger Vaquero for anything but hunting.

I have a Heritage Arms single action 45 Colt pistol.
Its reliable, powerful, and accurate but no carry
gun. Maybe good gun to have in a vehicle or home.

Decades ago when I was driving trucks for a living, I carried a Ruger Blackhawk .357 mag w/ 4-5/8" barrel. It saved my bacon on a couple of occasions. I certainly didn't feel undergunned at the time. I carried it because it's what I had at the time.

However, there are obvious flaws in the single action revolver by comparison to more modern platforms -- slower follow-up shots, very slow to reload. There's a reason single-action wheelguns are no longer service weapons.

If it's all you've got, use it. If you can choose a more effective weapon, do so. After all, it's your life we're talking about. Why compromise if you don't have to?
