i have a M&P 40c and it is a newer model after 3-4,000 rounds it started dropping mags only with my carry ammo. i changed the mag catch and same thing. i think the frame is flexing under the speer gold dots? anyhow it is a safe queen now and i purchased and carry a Kimber ultra carry II 1911 and simply love it no more M&P's for carry for me maybe range time but not carry

I had one of the earlier M&P's and also had the mag cache problem. S&W sent me the new cache and no more problem. I have over 5,000 rounds through it and no malfunctions. Get the M&P, you won't regret it. Any problems at all and S&W WILL fix it free of charge.

And yes, while one person goes and rants about how their gun is junk, thousands of other owners are happy. The curse of the Internet. Example: Glocks will explode due to their faulty chamber support, they are inaccurate, malfunction, and have hard recoil. See, what I mean? BTW, I wouldn't buy a Glock, but I would have no problem using one if I didn't have a choice.

+1 for the PPS! I love mine.

I have about 1000 rounds through my M&P with no problems!

I have and carry a M&P40c and have never had any issues with any mag in over 1500 rounds. I know 8 other people who have the same gun or the 9mm version and they have had no problems. They are great guns, darn accurate and very little recoil.

I had the mag catch problem after about 500-600 rounds.

Sent it in. M&P replaced it free of charge.
I am now at about 1,000 rounds without a hiccup except for some really cra..., er, cheap ammo the range sold me.

Great gun. Love it.

I considered the M&P Compact :vs: the Glock-26...I went with known dependability...I purchased the Glock-26.

We are a Glock family, but when it came time for me to decide on what to carry, I couldn't get it to feel comfortable. I LOVE my M&P9C.

I think if it felt better when you had them side by side, you will like it better in the long run...

Well a Glock is a Glock. A S&W M&P is a copy of a Glock. All you need to answer is do you want the original perfected model or a copy?

I am going to chime in with the Glock group.

Many moons ago, I was considering whether I would go Glock or XD. I chose the Glock because it was an established gun, extensive after market support, known issues (if any) vs. the newcomer on the block.

If you don't have a predisposition toward the M&P, I would seriously consider the Glock. Take it to the range and shoot one. See if you like it. Field strip it. See how easy it is to clean/fix/change things. Read the forums. Learn about its reliability. In other words, do your homework. You will be happy with your decision.

Short answer: NO
I am a big fan of the M&P line (and Glocks). I own a M&P 40c that has been 100% reliable.
