I have a 9c with 500+ rounds through it. No problems, and more accurate than I am.
Reasons I went with it over Glock:
Now that I've had it almost a year, the only trades I would consider would be the 45c (now that it's out. Grrr) or a compact 1911. I'm more accurate with a heavier gun, and having been carrying a while now, I'm convinced I probably could conceal one.

Of the 8 people on my IDPA squad this past weekend, 3 carried M&Ps (in various flavors), two had Glocks, two had a 1911 of one make or another, and I was the oddball with my SR9.
Two of the M&P shooters used to shoot Glocks, one being a very recent "convert". One of the Glocks had multiple issues with light strikes that day. Just an observation for of day of competition. The M&P seems to be gaining a bit of popularity in my area. I know of another Glock shooter in my IDPA club who recently got a M&P, but I don't know if he's started using that in competition yet. -JT |

Owned both a G26 and now the M&P 9 Compact. No problems with either of them. Prefer the M&P if deep concealment isn't needed. The Glock is smaller, but
I don't like how it recoils. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1393209/34b.jpg

Why dont you do what we all do. Go to your local range and rent one to see if you like it or not. It's worth the effort. Don't buy a gun because it looks good on picture. Rent a couple of guns and see for yourself which one works best for you.

I have the sw mp compact in 40 cal. No problems of any kind. What surprised me the most is the muzzle flip, or should I say lack of muzzle flip. The trigger is sweet, its dead on shooting it. If I was you I would get one after oct1 with the rebate. The price on these guns has gone up as they catch on in the concealed carry population.

Just consider the complaints vs. the numbers sold (estimated 20,000+ in 2007) But if you are worried then get something else. The gun is the best match for me and it still was even after reading all the negative problems posted. |

I bought an M&P 40C and had a nightmare with dropping mags. Several trips back to S&W. FInally they gave me a new frame and I installed a much stiffer mag catch spring myself. Between the new frame and the stiffer mag catch spring, I haven't had any drops so far. I love the feel in the hand, but the capacity is not so good (only 10+1). I can carry a G19/G23 just as easily and have either 15+1 (9mm) or 13+1 (.40) respectively in a gun virtually the same size as the M&P Compact. I much prefer the greater capacity as I believe those few extra rounds can easily make THE decisive difference in an encounter where you may well find yourself facing more than one assailant. So for carry, my G19 with 16 rounds on board always wins out over the 11 round M&P 40C. The 40C is a really nice gun, though... I just wish they had better capacity. The G19 isn't quite as sexy in the hand fit area, but delivers the goods spectacularly in every other metric. The G19 may be the best carry gun extant.
