I had my Glock 19 on layaway when I first handled a M&P 9c. It was really tempting to swap them out. I thought the G19 felt good in my hand but the M&P was even better. I decided to stick with what I'd already decided on mainly because, at the time, the M&P was still fairly new on the market and I was considering spare mags, new leather and other accessories.

If I had to do it all over again, I might very well go with the M&P Compact. It's just too sweet in the hand. I think you'd be well served with either the Glock or the S&W and either choice will likely give you a trouble free experience out of the box. If you handled both the G26 and the M&P 9c and liked the M&P better, then I'd recommend sticking with that decision.

Let us know what you decide ... and post some pics when you get it home.

I own both.

A police trade-in full size Glock 22 and a new M&P 9c.

Both have been flawless for me. Easily 1K through the Glock and over 500 through the M&P.

Full size, I do like the Glock grip, but it didn't work well in my hand when the grip was chopped short, which was my reasoning for going with the M&P.

My M&P .40 sucked big time. I purchased a Walther PPS 9mm with the proceeds from the trade-in. PPS is a GREAT gun. Easy to conceal, and a real tack driver. I filled the .40 void with an XD .40 SC and a Glock 36 in .45 for when the 9mm just feels a little small.

I was getting some range time with my XD45 4" Service, and the guy next to me had a brand new M&P 40 (whatever the service sized model is called). We ended up exchanging guns for a few minutes, and I was really shocked by how terrible the trigger was on the M&P (and that was compared to the XD, which feels like it's got about a 2" travel). The M&P guy returned my gun with a huge grin, saying he loved the trigger compared to the M&P.

That experience, in addition to the corrosion and other issues I've read about online, has steered me away from that particular gun.

I did the same thing and a year later sold it for a Glock26. Mine had the mag drop issues and feeding issues. I sent it to S&W, but the problems returned after about 500+ rounds. I sent it to the facory again and the person I sold it to has never had a problem with it, but he has only shot about 250 rounds through it. The MP9C is an awesome handling gun, but I could never trust my life with the one I owned. My Glock by the way has never given me a problem...

MY FREE M&P mags arrived shortly after a month of waiting.

I consioder them the cicing on the M&P cake.

Cheaper than a Glock, better ergonomics than a Glock.

Equally as reliable as a Glock or CZ, Beretta in the short time with it
so far.

My only mistake with the M&P series is that I didn't buy one earlier.

I got my free two M&P pinky extended mags AND the $50 rebate. I still traded it in for a Walther PPS. It never made the kind of impression on me that I was willing to bet my life on.

I want to thank everyone for the comments. There was enough comments about problems with the M&P I feel it isn't for me. I ended up getting a H&K P2000sk. It's the one I wanted to begin with but I was to tight to spend the extra.

Glad you've got a gun you're happy with, no point buying one you're not 100% confident in. Have you been to the range yet? How'd it handle?

After getting home I did some research on the M&P and see some problems. Just looking at mp-pistol.com and reading the subjects it's easy to find all sorts of posts about problems. It seems that people have no problems and they love the gun or the gun has problems for others.

It seems like you just don't read problems about the 26. Am I missing something? I feel like I want to exchange the M&P for the 26.

I never dreamed trying to figure out what gun to carry would be so stressful.
Two year old gun vs 13 year old gun. Glock has had time to work the bugs out.

Make sure your M&P has an 2008 manufacturer date and you should be good to go. Expect a new to the market gun to have some teething issues initially. Smith has been outstanding in their CS by the way for the guns that were having issues.
