Does anyone carry wheelguns as primary anymore?

Seems that everything is semi-auto for CCW's.

Anyone carry a good smokewagon as their primary CCW?

Just curious. I am going to make the switch to a 357/.38.

Don't know why exactly.......it is just calling me.

Any opinions, or comments? Sign of the times?

Some times when i need something really really small i carry the Colt Cobra

But i usually pack a Auto

A semi-auto is about capacity really with ease of mag change for another stack if need be.

Wheel guns are cool to carry, I just don't have one I would like to carry. I am looking at one of these though, an SP-101 worked over by Gemini Customs.

I do but, only sometimes & rarely these days.
Folks here sure do carry them every day though.
I don't see anything in the world wrong with packing a good, reliable, & accurate wheelgun.
Go for it...if you would prefer to cart a wheelie.

I have tried really really hard to CCW a wheelgun.

The problems are:

Lack of platforms in the calibers I wish to use

Lack of platforms in the right physical size

Heavy

Cylinder bulge

Lack of holster support

The market shoehorns you into a semiauto because that's all they make any more it seems!

My dream CCW revolver:

- Is a double action revolver in stainless
- With a 3" bbl
- In .44 Special
- L or N frame sized
- Has fixed sights
- No internal lock

They made this gun once... it was called the 696. Good luck finding one. I done gave up. They do come up every so often at outrageous prices.

The other problem is that revolver calibers even .38 Special are much more costly than 9mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP, etc. .44 Special costs an arm and a leg in comparison.

Even with the cost of magazines the aftermarket is easier and cheaper on self loaders.

I have found that the Ruger GP 100 in the stainless 3" model is ALMOST the perfect CCW revolver for me. I feel it is the most realistic compromise to my specs.

The XD I can carry IWB, tucked IWB, OWB... the cylinder bulge of the Ruger and its weird center of gravity make anything but OWB uncomfortable for me. The flat uniform profile of the selfloader is so much easier to conceal.

The 625 may prove interesting if I can bring myself to trust the moon clips and ignore the spider hole. I want .44 Special, so .45 ACP which is often cheaper and definitely easier to find seems like a decent substitute.

I did, have and still would - except now with my SIG I have better capacity and actually much as i love revo's - have a platform that suits me ideally.

I carried my first piece as the old M85 snub - then was P95 for some time, followed by BHP. I then got the SP-101 and that was carry for many months - much of 2004. I also for several weeks carried my M28-2 - it was an easy carry for size.

Finally tho after what you can see as something of an evolutionary process, came to where I am now. I think some of us often need to experiment a bit plus of course working within the limitations of concealment choices.

I will never feel significantly under-gunned with a revo - just maybe lacking in capacity.

Sometimes a SRH in the woods and a cut down S&W mod 29 (cut down to 3") to run errands, but rare....
I love the looks of a well made revolver and those Smith triggers are hard to beat...

S&W Model 60 on the weekends and as a backup when I am on the job. Also I carry a six round speed strip for a reload plus one round. They give us +P+ Hydro-Shock 38 special ammo to carry in the gun.

Good moon clips don't bend as easy as the cheepie's and if you really are thinking about carrying it you want a 325 the 625 is heavy

Well not all the time Bud, hehe. The Ruger GP100 is too heavy for a lot of applications! But you know I've got to try it!
