This is a very bad idea. Many defensive engagements can be very physical. I would defy anyone to be able to draw without a holster (particularily if it is covered with a tucked in shirt) while someone is beating the living crap out of them. Same goes for the trigger block idea. Fine motor skills go out the window when the adrenalin hits.
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings here, but this is a great way to blow chunks off of your own body, or lose control of the firearm and have it go skidding across the floor/ground & potentially arm your opponent or hostile bystanders. Guns are't toys and holsters exist for a reason. I would also suggest some professional level training... |

Ill just somewhat echo gary in saying that i sincerely hope your situational awareness is such that you wont become involved in a confrontation by being knocked on your butt out of the blue , and then scrambling to secure the firearm YOU brought to the fight .
Edited to add: i also hope you never need to run , jump a trashcan or other debris , ect while doing the " mexican " carry thing . guns tend to have an inertial mass that is simply amazing if you give them a chance . |

Good point Gary! No feelings hurt on my part. I never gave much thought to the trigger block -- during the heat of a confrontation - your right - I probably would not think to push it out considering every thing else that would be going on. I'm glad I offered my 2cents, it gave me a chance to correct my thinking. Thank you.

Points well taken, Gary and Redneck. I'm not trying to get fresh an be a smart aleck, so please don't take offense at my posting this, but the training I've had taught me to bring a gun to a gunfight. I don't treat my firearms like they are toys, nor do I take my carrying them lightly. Now that I have this baby back (shame on me), I don't think I will ever put myself intentionally in the situation to carry this method.
![]() I thank you guys for your insights, I guess this thread is more a case study in carry philosophies.

I carried "mexican" on two occasions... (and this was 25 + years ago) Man that puppy was in there tight (S&W 459). Not going anywhere... even wrapped big fat rubber bands over the grips because I read that keeps it from slipping out! First time, it was great! Was out for about 4 or 5 hours. Second time, all going good... then about 2 hours later, we're trotting across a parking lot to get out of the rain and the damn thing slid down the inside of my pants and right down my pants leg before I could catch it! Spilled right out onto the ground, and since we were kind of running, I kicked it about 10 feet away! Can you believe that? Now come on... how many of you guys didn't see that coming? Talk about panic... tried as discretely as possible to retrieve it and shove it back in waistband but got made by my friends. They heard the clunk and heard it skidding across the parking lot! I felt like a chump and had some 'splainin to do! But hey, anyone has a right to carry however they want. Sometimes I wonder how I ever made it to this stage in my life where now I can finally carry legally, and I didn't somehow screw it up in my earlier youth to prevent me from being able to possess a ccw. (anyone know what I mean?) Boy I needed a nut kick that night! <--- Stupid! On another note, I know two drug task force officers who carry mexican because they say criminals don't use holsters! They have been frisked before and while the dealers don't seem to mind finding a gun on you, they just believe if it's in a holster, you're automatically a cop. I told them you're gonna get made anyway because you are too clean and take too many showers... You want to blend in with the underworld, take less showers, don't wash your hair for a week and smell like B.O.
