Aelbric: for the first month of carrying, unload your firearm and carry a speed-loader either in your other pocket, or on in a sheath on your belt. (Just in case you really need it.)

During that first month, you will slowly become comfortable with the feel and extra weight in your pocket. You will also find in that first month, that not once did you experience a 'negligent discharge', or anything close to it.

After that, you will be able to carry comfortably and confidently, knowing that your initial fear of a negligent discharge is not warranted.

Good luck and congratulations on taking the step to carry concealed.

Wes.

It is invalid to think of a holstered gun as "sweeping" anyone! It's simply not the case. A gun doesn't sweep unless it is unholstered, and most likely held in a firing grip (but not necessarily).

You deal with this by CONSCIOUSLY AND RATIONALLY REMINDING YOURSELF THAT IT'S AN IRRATIONAL FEAR AND ALL IRRATIONAL FEARS MUST BE DISCOUNTED AND IGNORED.

I had the same concern at first which is why I find the double action trigger pull on a revolver (642) so comforting.

Wes.
Thank you everyone for the constructive responses. It's not that I am uncomfortable with a firearm in any way. It's just that unfamiliar feeling of a holstered pistol "rattling around" in my pocket I suppose.

Wes. Thanks. I think I may try this until my confidence increases. Perhaps leaving the chamber under the hammer and the next one in the cylinder empty is another option. That way I'm closer to ready in the event I need it.

The Nemesis is an excellent holster. I carry my S&W640 in one.

As stated by another poster, a properly holstered weapon isnt' a problem.

Look at it this way, no matter what form of carry you use, your holstered gun WILL sweep someone sometime.

If you are on the second floor of your house, and your family is on the first floor, you will most likely sweep them at some point.

As you get more comfortable with carrying, this feeling of concern will fade.

+1

It is not my favorite method of carry (because I end up using my smaller caliber gun), but sometimes weather and clothing requirements make it the most practical method. I feel just as comfortable with pocket carry as I do with my IWB Versa Max II.

I don't know about deserves - but certainly a degradation in the thought process has put them - and others at undue risk. I am one that wished no one - even stupid people - any harm. jmo

If the 442 is anything like my 642, it has a long and rather hard double action pull. With your gun in the holster, there is no way it will discharge without you pullling the trigger.

Relax and enjoy pocket carry.
