I think its pretty clear that holster makers are more artists than they are business men.

That's an awful broad statement. I think it could better be said that "some holster makers are not business men at all." Some however realize that being a business man is necessary to being a successful holster maker While being an artist is their primary desire these makers realize that their primary desire cannot be attained unless their business succeeds. Those who do realize this do one of two things. They either become versed enough in business to run their business well or they find a way to get help with the business part of the operation.

The ones who do not realize that being a business man is necessary or who never take the steps necessary to make sure the business end of the operation is done well end up with threads like this.

My only request is that whoever you are, if you took my order and expect to take my money, have the decency to let me know if it's going to take longer than you originally quoted! You don't have to even be a good business man to have a little common courtesy!

Bumper, thank you for the thread,

Gary Brommeland e-mailed me on the 20th of Dec. 2006
I received your order today. We are running approximately 12 - 16 weeks on deliveries at this time...
My check was cashed out at that time.

5 months later 22nd of May when my gear was due - actually it was already 1-2 months late - I politely asked him in an e-mail about my order, response was:
Your order is coming up now, and I should be shipping it to you in 2-3 weeks. I will be sure and send you an email when it is on the way.

22nd of June an other inquiry from me and an other polite response from Gary Brommeland:
With regards to your specific order, your holster has been started and will be completed early this week. The belt will be done later next week, or perhaps early the following week. We should be shipping them both in 10 days to 2 weeks.

16th of Jul at this point 3-4 months late I received that email from him what is also a sticky on the top of this page.
We estimate that all of the old orders will be out within 90 days, and each customer will be emailed or telephoned when their order ships so that they be looking for them.

Well it never came....others have been waiting for 1 1/2 year so I don't even have big hopes.

Should have been told us that the current back-log is well over a year, and most of us would be willing to wait happily just to receive his holster instead of treating his customers like this.
A quick search on other forums--->two-three years ago people went thru the same things, nothing have changed. He has a list of reasons a mile long...
I know he had health problems recently, hope he is all well now.

One of the very top holster makers made a comment in a similar thread of mine on a different forum: And I also know the difference between being 6 to 8 weeks behind and 1 year behind when quoting a customer (as do other responsible makers) and am not so inept as to mistake one for the other when looking at the work stacked up in front of me.

Sure enough I am not going to do business with him in the future.

It seems there are a lot of problems with makers not delivering goods when promised. I would like to say that Tucker delivered the week they said they would and has always answered my e-mails quickly. They are my first choice when looking for leather.

Agreed, but judging on what I've learned my broad statement is not incorrect.
Those who are both are few and far, those who are have someone else managing their affairs so they can be artists.

Beltman

Belt arrived i n 3 weeks as promised. I will report on my ordered holster from another artist with the 4 month posted web site delivery time. My advice to the makers is to raise prices and hire office staff to communicate with the customers.

Interesting. When he wrote you this, he was already 16 MONTHS behind on my order. I'm still waiting...

My experience with Gary Brommeland:

On September 12, 2005 I ordered 3 holsters, 1 mag pouch and 1 belt the first day Gary opened shop in TN. He had been closed for business due to moving from FL and setting up a new shop. This was 2 years and 4 months ago. This was LONG before leather supply issues and LONG before he developed a less-expensive line of leather. He promised delivery in 4-6 WEEKS, which was end of Oct., 2005. Here is a post I made at the time, which confirms my facts. Mine is the 4th post down.

He said he would charge my card when the order was ready. To my surprise it went through the next day. I let it slide because of his reputation here and elsewhere. I figured if he charged it 4-6 weeks early, no big deal.

For 2 years, 4 months, I've watched reports of others getting their work ahead of me. I know my order was in first because I got him the very FIRST DAY he opened shop. I have been ahead of every order filled. Something very wrong about it. This is way beyond the run-of-the-mill "is it done yet" situation.

Finally in March 2007 I received a partial order--I got 1 holster, 1 mag pouch, 1 belt, 1 promise to have the rest out in "2 weeks," and a promise of extra gear. So far nothing, except this PM promise to have my order finished by October, 2007:

Thank you for your extreme patience. I do truly appreciate it.
I will have the balance of your order out to you by the time you are back in "computer range" with the possible exception of your pocket holster for the J-Frame. We have some design work yet to do on them, and that is a very time consuming proposition. I will do my best to get it taken care of too, but may end up having to refund your money on that one. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you again."

I told him if the pocket holster was a problem, don't let that slow the order (even though it is a listed item on his website.

One of the reasons something feels so wrong about the situation is that Gary kept taking orders even when he had some 2 years old that he had not filled, and then has been filling the newer orders first.

Gary said good leather was scarce, and that he was completely overbooked by too much for too long, and then got inundated by emails. Even taken at face value, my order predates any of those issues. I also have understanding for his current health situation. Yet again, that is a recent development and doesn't explain ALL of the orders getting filled ahead of mine.

I also have seen him expanding his business into flashlights, Wilderness belts, and getting set up for a training camp--all the while claiming he was getting slammed with orders, and that he was "doing his best" to get them made. Opening new business ventures is "doing his best?" That still doesn't explain the poor judgment in filling in orders backwards. At first I contacted him by email once every 2 or 3 months. Never took up his time by phone, and always polite. In the past year though I've only sent a few, the one in March thanking him for the partial order, one PM in October when he promised my order by month's end, and one PM in November asking about the order, which he ignored.

Angry What to do???

So I'm not the only one.
Robb's post really makes me mad.
2+ years.
18 months I've waited.
The thought of him making 40+ holsters for a dist. to sit on a shelf while backorders were building up, and still taking orders is crazy.
I don't care if his holster was invisible - is being treated like this worth it?
When I ordered my holster I was fired up, told all my friends at the range about this badasss new holster I ordered (that was a mistake).
Now once a month they laugh ( is it here yet?)
Gary I know you read this site as a former moderator.
Where is my holster?
Is your product so good that customer service is not important?
18 months was my limit.
I sent an e-mail last week
"Please send me my order or my money this year." - as you can guess, no response.
I have waited 18 months for nothing!
Thanks to this forum I have found quite a few very good holster makers with good reputations.
I want what I ordered (paid in full) but I will not wait any longer.
If a mans word is useless, then what does he have??
