Blackhawk Shoulder Harness System

I am looking at possibly getting a blackhawk serpa shoulder system for certain times when I am on duty/ off duty concealed. Has anyone out there tried this system? If so what were the positives/negatives? I would prefer leather though I am allergic to a lot of types of leather. (I am weird, I know).

Thanks for any input.

Do you need to have or want or are required to have a vertical shoulder rig?
For what make & model of firearm?

I need a rig and they are "strongly recommended" by the department. The Blackhawk system can by used as both Horizontal and Vertical. I love the Serpa holster and I think that the system will be as quality. I have a glock 22 and a glock 19.

You might also want to look at these offerings by Survival Sheath Systems.

That appears to be a nice system. I guess my draw to Blackhawk is the fact that I can use either of my serpa holsters with the rig without having to buy 2 rigs. Though I like the fact I can get a cuff holster with that system.

Thumbs up

I have no personal issues w/ the Blackhawk Serpa.
Only suggested this holster as a possible other option as you'll notice it's tension retention - which some find easier to draw quicker from in a shoulder type rig.

Just a review:
After receiving the Blackhawk shoulder system, I must say that it is absolutely Awful. I always go with custom holsters and the one time I try to pinch a penny I just realize again why I like custom rigs/higher quality rigs.

The short of it: Friends Don't Let Friends Buy The Blackhawk Shoulder Harness System
Though I do still love me Serpa Holster.

How about some more info as to why you dislike the shoulder system? I was considering , but had some doubts. thanks.

Absolutely no security even with tie downs. The holster is akward in shape and fit. THe holster is not a stable piece of equipment and I would not wear it. I liked the idea that I could put my serpa holster on it, though with where the holster sits, it is almost impossible to unholster. Reholstering is a joke without both hands. I think that it was a good idea, though the designers need to go back to the drawing board. I ordered a survival sheath system and got it today and love it. It is much easier to use and sits much better on the body. They made the harness system WAY too bulky to work.

Thanks for the valuable feedback on the holster set-up. I wish someone had warned me before I bought the x-project shoulder rig from galco. I thought about replacing it with this but clearly it'd be the same result. I'll throw down for a real rig like you did.

Thanks again!
