Kansas CCW

Just got this response from an inquiry I made to the Kansas AG's office. There has been some debate in other forums as to when non-resident permits would be honored in Kansas under their new CCW law. Figured I'd share this with all of you in case some of you were interested.

"Mr. XXXXX, thank you for your attention regarding the new CCW law in
Kansas. The Kansas Concealed Carry law will not go into effect until
July 1, 2006, which marks the beginning of the application process.
Concealed Carry Licenses will be neither distributed nor recognized in
Kansas until January 1, 2007. Therefore, we are still in the planning
and early implementation stage, so no list of states whose licenses will
be recognized in Kansas is published yet. Rest assured that there has
been a lot of discussion and research done by our Concealed Carry Task
Force on this topic in order to assure that the decision of reciprocity
is made wisely. So as you travel through Kansas betwwen now and January
1, 2007, you can be sure that your Concealed Carry License will not be
valid. Please check back closer to the January 1st date for the final
decision on reciprocity. Let me know if you have any further
questions.

I live in Colorado and travel thru Kansas about once or twice a year. I'm elated they (KS) have finally voted to become a shall issue state.

I really don't understand why it's taking them soooooooo long to issue the permit (Jan 1, 2007)

You got to love Kansas. I was surprised that it actually passed this year. It probably would not have if a Republican Governor had vetoed it instead of a Democratic Governor.

Yeah, well, let's hope that AG Phil Kline gets re-elected. I've got a bad feeling about his challenger (being a die-hard Dem and all...). He could try to impose all sorts of restrictions and make it nearly impossible to get, if he so chose.
