MikeV,
I hope you (and CCW9mm) know I was not trying to knock your legs out from under you. As long as we are working together to promote our firearms rights, I consider us all to be the good guys. :c) The little differences in how we approach it don't amount to much. Our solidarity, on the other hand, goes a long way.

You are doing your part in keeping safety a #1 priority. For that, you can NEVER be called an "a-hole."

Gonzo;

No worries brother. Believe me I didn't take any offense nor was I angered. My post in the other area although not ment to be inflammatory might have opened a discussion that need not take place.

BTW I fully understand and support the moderator response to remove post.

Thanks

As an Airman (the correct, collective term for Air Force members), I do not trust any other Airman with a firearm...this includes Security Forces--unless I have spent some time on the range with them. Why? Most of the time the weapon is either in the armory or in a holster and AF doesn't spend enough $$ on ammo for proper training.
Major- While I have to agree that historically the AF hasn't done much for us when it comes to small arms training we are getting better. Much, much better actually. However, I have to say that some AFSC's fare much better then others.

But I have to ask, what do you have against us getting more combat training?

I would not weed them out, I would leave that to the legal system. Unfortunately this usually requires that somebody has been harmed.

I agree with your statement, I don't think anyone's rights should be taken. However with rights comes responsibilities. It's my opinion that if you want to exercise your rights you should also exercise you responsibilities.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think the Major was displeased with the quality of the training, not that we're getting it.

Side note... it's a regular old reunion here.

That is what I interpreted from the Major. Not that he was against Airmen getting more training or the AF in general getting more money for small arms training, but rather he was sharing personal observations in regards to the "minimum" requirements the AF feels is suitable for its members.

+1 to mikep...

I am **all for** more training--but the AF hasn't developed institutionally that it is well worth the investment for ALL Airmen to receive the small arms training needed to deploy to fight the GWOT. The best course out there is the Combat Convoy Course--but I don't believe everyone attends. Like SABC, the AF should adopt some basic skills ground training expected by the Army for their Soldiers.

The AF assumes all Airmen will be hunkered down on an established base--I have yet to be deployed where I didn't spend more than half of that time outside the wire. However, the AF didn't see fit to train me or my guys for that mission--by hook or by crook we found the training through other Services...

Bottomline to my rant--when battling the GWOT, the AF needs to change the way of thinking of garrison-like deployments and ensure every Airman can carry and employ/engage small arms (M9, M4/M16) beyond the basic qualification (annual, every two/three years whether they need to or not)--not keep weapons in a locked central location/issue when "needed" while in-theater (like certain bases in SWA)

Sirs [officers] are scared of guns. Nothing really new in that situation.
