Chorizo, your comments make me wish you were the current CMC and not the *****bag we have now.
Regardless, I was told that I was there to defend democracy not to practice it every time I asked about something like that. I figured since I signed the contract they had me on that one. But, as a civillian, you're not under their oppressive contract so you should feel free to dig to the bottom.

to the contrary

I can't believe that we can't trust our Marines with weapons...I absolutely disagree with that view. In 21 years in the Corps, it NEVER crossed my mind that they shouldn't have free access to their weapons. Alcohol was another hot button topic for me. If I can trust them with my life, I can trust them to have a cocktail. The ones that violate that trust you deal with. S/F

I don't know if this has already been stated, I didn't want to read through all five pages and get mad at some of the garbage posts.
Bottom line is this... the military or any large organizations have to deal with all kinds of people. A whole bunch of them are lucky they can tie their own shoes. I can say this, 'cause I lived with them for several years. So when rules are made, they have to be made with the lowest common denominator in mind. They also have an interest in keeping their assests safe, both people and hardware. The only way to do this is to minimize liabilties. The rules and regs are written by pencil pushers and bean counters who believe that problem personel can't be "dealt" with as Chorizo put it. For the most part he is correct, they are dealt with. In the case of firearms, the dealing is mostly done when its to late. |

Yep, SIXTO you are right, they are dealt with. And better dealt with in the barracks than when they are standing at my "six" when I am in a firefight. Spent 21 years with them, I know what I am speaking of. The "I am just looking out for their own safety" and "I know what is best for you" mentality is the same elitist attitude that polititions adopt when they want to ban guns/concealed carry/high capacity mags/knives longer than 3" or what ever else they don't think you should have.
We don't restrict cops from their weapons, why should we restrict combat professionals from theirs? If we used your rules, then why do the hell do we even issue cops weapons? These professional warriors shouldn't have to give up their rights to defend those same rights for others.

I think you may have missed my intended message. I was just trying to illustrate the thought process behind the rules.
I agree with you; but there are a lot of them who are lucky the can tie their own shoes... but they get dealt with rather quickly by their peers. |

I did miss your point. I apologize. I have always said the best pressure is peer pressure. Just ask any barracks thief!
