CCW in Tennessee vs Virginia

I may have to move nearer DC in the future, I guess that means living in Maryland or Virginia. After a quick look on Handgunlaw.us I feel that Virginia is preferrable to Maryland.
But after reading the link to the VAPD site I still have a few unanswered questions.

Can I buy as many guns as I want each month if I have a CCW permit?
Are gun prices higher there than TN/the South?
Can I take all my guns there with me?
I can't find any restrictions on magazine capacity, are there any?
Is VA getting better or worse regarding CCW? Is MD?

I'll move regardless, but I want to know what I'm getting into. For example, if I can import as many guns as I like and guns cost a hypothetical 20% more than here then I'll get a few major purchases out of the way sooner rather than later.

Thanks.

VA=Free state--shall issue state

MD=CA(east), IL (east)--may issue (NFW)

No gun registration in VA--bring'em all! (or if you feel you can't take care of them all, drop them off at my house)

No mag capacity limitations (ala CA)---just can't open carry a weapon that holds more than 20+ rds in the mag

No permit required for open carry

May carry in a restaurant--but ONLY open carry (even if you have a CHP--concealed handgun permit)

Resident CHP=$50....as of 1 July 2007, permits become lifetime permits (unclear how this affects those already with permits--State legislature still needs to figure it out this session)

Class 3 weapons allowed (IAW existing Federal laws)

In other words--move to VA, avoid MD...and join VCDL....www.vcdl.org

Good information, thanks.
So you have open carry there? Is that above and beyond the limits imposed by HCPs?
Nice link too, I will certainly steer the wagon away from MD.
We're looking at Arlington initially, but are open to suggestions.

I live about 40 miles south of DC...and commute to Arlington (where I work). IMO, open carry tends to be more accepted the more south you go (Richmond and Hopewell notwithstanding).

Also--your permit MUST be issued within 45 days by the Circuit Court Clerk unless your background check comes back with issues. Fingerprinting MAY be completed on initial applications (Fairfax does fingerprinting, whereas Stafford County does not)--fingerprinting is NOT permitted on renewal applications (this is before the lifetime permit)

When applying for your CHP...if you run into problems...contact VCDL....they are very sensitive and responsive to public officials not following the laws IRT CHP permits.

You are limited to one purchase per month, except no limits if you have your Concealed Handgun Permit.

Yep. Without it, it's one every 30 days.

Are gun prices higher there than TN/the South?

Not sure on TN, but some VA prices to be found in the area include sub-$500 Glocks, $650-750 Sigs, $500-range XDs, $700+ 1911s (some cheaper, some more expensive, as par for the course). You can always find lower if you look around, or buy online. I've found a guy in Fairfax Station that can get good deals on stuff - PM me if you'd like more info.

Can I take all my guns there with me?

Hell, they practically encourage it.

I can't find any restrictions on magazine capacity, are there any?

Nope.

VA is getting better. In July of this year, all permits will be LIFETIME permits. Before this, you had to renew every 5 years. It's shall-issue, so all you need is $50 and proof of competency (DD-214, training certificate, etc.). Fill out the paperwork, and you'll have it in 45 days or less (unless you submit the wrong DD-214 like SOME people, i.e., ME, and have to submit "supplementary" information, which may delay the process).

In Maryland - they want fingerprints, passport photos, this, that, waiting period, you have to "justify" carrying it (FYI: reported, verifiable death threats have been shot down as just cause in MD), it costs a TON, and well, MD just sucks. This is coming from a born-in-Baltimore and raised-in-MD-until-18-and-then-I-got-the-@#$%-out guy.
So, um, yeah - besides, we're for lovers (of weapons)!

Thanks a lot Nate, everyone.
The gun prices sound about the same as TN, which is encouraging.

Anyone have any opinions on Arlington?
We do have the money to live in a good neighborhood, I assume Arlington has plenty of those.

When did Fairfax start doing Fingerprinting? I got mine in FFX CO back in 2001 and they were'nt requiring them then? I guess a lot has changed in FFX since I moved to Clarke.
