Here's one I haven't seen discussed here.

There are these badges. They don't look like any police badges from around here and they say Concealed Carry Permit on them. I've heard arguments both ways. What say you?

While I do not hold people in total ridicule for owning 1 , I would not. I see to many problems with people either assuming I am LEO or falsely accusing me of claiming LEO status. Also as a former LEO , I can see Officers not looking favorably on someone having a CCW badge. Finally I can see problems if you ever have to go to court, and a lawyer using this against ya.

I say avoid them like the plague. Why in God's name would any CCW holder want such a badge?

Well the first thing that comes to mind is a desire to play cowboy and emulate an authority figure. You know, "citizen's arrest". Be part of the "posse".

Now it's true that the more guns out there in the hands of the right people, the less crime there will be. In a sense the gun owners of this country have always provided a protective shield of sorts for even the most liberal anti-2nd amendment extremist. But it's a passive kind of protection like an alarm system or putting better locks on your doors, not an active one like a team of security guards.

If you think you're some kind of official or cowboy or "Concealed Carry Hero" I think you seriously need to sit down and reconsider what you think you're doing. That's something I worked out for myself before I started this whole mess. The fact is that at the present time I have neither adequate training nor legal protection for attempting to "save" another person.

Now that's not to say that if I am walking by and I see some tattooed piece of trash wearing an orange jumpsuit stenciled with "County Jail" on the back with the remains of handcuffs on his wrists beating the living daylights out of your sister with a tire iron that I'm not going to shoot him. I'd get involved in that situation whether I was armed or not because I couldn't face myself in the mirror the next day otherwise.

But the point is I am not going to go looking for that guy. And you know what, if I see two men fighting and I do not know who is who, I will get the hell out of there and call the police. I'm not going to go running around trying to save people unless it's a way out there in left field situation. I will let the professionals handle it whenever possible.

The fact is I'm not that noble. If I wanted to save people, I'd have become a soldier, an LEO, a paramedic, or a fireman. Thank God everyone's not a little weasel like I am.

And another thing: I have a legal obligation to be concealed, as in you cannot tell at all I am carrying. I don't agree with it, but you know what tough nuggets I have to obey it. Why on earth would I want a badge that announces to the world what I have in my right front pocket?

Avoid these things.

Now what I would like to see is a wallet made for CCW holders that would display both forms of ID simultaneously. That I could use.

This subject pops up on packing.org every few months. It seems the overall feeling id a big NO!

My thought is that if you were supposed to carry one, the state where you got your permit would require you to buy one.......... Not some badge manufacturer out after aq few bucks extra!

Why advertise? Doesn't concealed mean concealed? I have heard of idots actually wearing them on thier belt like PD badges, while concealing the firearm. Not only does that open you up A) charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer,depending on local laws/ordinances, but much more importantly, B) being targeted by various criminal enterprises who love offing anyone with a badge. If such a thing was legitimate, they would be sold WITH the permit BY the state in question. As not one single state ISSUES such tin shields, I cannot fathom any such use for them whatesoever. Attempting to use one to ID yourself to PD during a "situation" may get you in deeper doo-doo than you were before!
If you want a real badge, see what you local, county, or state police have for hiring reserve officers, attend the academy, and do some volunteer work, as well as quality training in many avenues such as firearms, retention, driving, and arrest techniques.
I don't automatically call CCW badge users "wannabes", but that is what they will be tagged with. Bad idea all around. The other idea of drivers license/CCW permit being in the same folder is good - I set up my wife that way. One, it gives you a handy item to hand to police, and two, it lets you hand over your regular wallet to a robber without losing that ID....(and what were you doing in Condition White, anyway?!?!?) Also, more importatnly, it allows for a slim ID to be carried discreetly, just as your firearm, so women in tighter/fashionably pocketless clothing can still retain ID and permit.
That's my take on the whole subject.

I have to agree with what Rocky said. I assume the reason for having one of these would be able to flash it and say "Don't worry ma'am, I'm a CCW holder and I'm here to protect you". Seems like this is a good way to end up with a charge of impersonating an officer or something like that. I would never get one of these.

I don't think they are a good idea, too many ways to be viewed in the heat of the moment. One example is a guy was robbing an eating place a few miles from here and had everyone laying on the floor while doing the deed. As the BG was leaving the badge of a off duty cop caught his eye and he shot him saying here is one for the hommies!!! Its just risky buisness from all views to appear as LEO.

A bad idea. They have no purpose and if you flash it one might argue that you are impersonating an LEO.
