Non-Resident Licenses

Hello all. I have been lurking for a while now and taking in the wisdom that is available here. I just got an approval letter from the local sheriff's office saying that I can pick up my permit next week.

I travel extensively throughout OH, KY, and WV for work. With my OH resident permit I can carry in KY without any problem, but it is not recognized in WV. I have done some research and found out that Virginia offers a Non-Resident license and also has reciprocity with WV. I was wondering, If I get a non-resident VA license does that give me the right to carry in WV as well?

There is some debate about a VA non-resident license being good in WV. The WV code specifies it must be a permit from the holder's state of residence. That indicates that a VA non-resident permit would not be recognized by WV.

Here is a link to the WV code.

This was posted today on the OFCC forum.

Quote:
I spoke today with West Virginia Deputy Attorney General Tom Smith concerning the implementation of HB 3074, our new concealed handgun license reciprocity law that took effect today. He expects to sign reciprocity agreements tomorrow, Friday, June 8, 2007, with Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio. Agreements with more states are in the works.

I will send another announcement once these agreements are signed and become official. Until these agreements become final, West Virginia licenses will NOT be valid in any of these states and licenses issued by these states will NOT be valid in West Virginia.

So, if you wait for a bit, your Ohio license might be enough.

New Hampshire out of state permit has you covered I believe. $20 and 2 weeks is the best deal in carry permits.

Glad to see WV is going to start recognizing more states. Their permit recognition has certainly suffered being as they only recognized the VA permit all this time.
