I suppose it's possible that some few "operator" types have permission to carry even though they aren't considered LEO. It would be possible for military personnel to carry 24/7 under orders, as the reg posted above shows. General officers are routinely authorized to carry their sidearm when they travel. The computer system that cuts military travel orders even has a specific code for that. I could see SOCCOM doing something like that for some of their guys, but it definitely wouldn't be a regular thing.

My fiance is in the Guard. When she first decided we were both going to get licenced, she asked her commander about an Army carry permit.

She was told the Military does not have a ccp, and weapons were only authorized while on duty.
As someone said earlier... "Mission specific"

I'd like to see where in the UCMJ where it says you can't carry in uniform if off duty, and off post. IE driving home if your legal to carry in your state.


And as stated, the national military permit is BS.

However some states like Ga. allow Military personnel to carry concealed weapons regardless of residence or station to carry without a permit. GO GEORGIA! But as stated it applies only off post.

Ok I think as a retired Army CID agent and current Fed I can answer this one.

Yes there is a concealed carry permit in the military that any commander can issue to his troops that allows them to carry concealed their "issued duty weapon". It is rarely issued and often unknown, but it is only for "on duty" with an "official issued weapon".

Army CID, AF OSI, are the only military (uniformed) personnel allowed to carry all the time on or off duty. This is because they are Federal "Criminal Investigators". Military Police (from all branches) are allowed to carry on duty including when they travel and off duty if it is imperative that they be able to respond with their weapons (including on airplanes) and typically the only ones who are allowed to do so are those assigned to protective units conducting a protective mission for senior members of the military.

Special Ops guys have in the past been issued creds to allow them to carry. The only unit that I know of that are given them are the Army's SOD-D (aka Delta Force) and they are issued Deputy US Marshal credentials. This is because they often travel with large quantities of weapons (aka arsonals) and its easier to explain that their Deputy Marshals without raising eyebrows of the locals.

Your buddy, unless he is a member of Delta (which isnt stationed in Germany) is full of it, unless he is a CID Agent and even then he would not be carrying a Glock.

There is some misconception about various state laws, that allow for members of the armed forces to carry weapons, but typically its written "when performing official duties" and this is for members of units doing AWOL Apprehension duties (which yes National Guard unit commanders are allowed to assign people to do, but most of them use LEOs who are in their units to do such).

With pleasure. After the 60s models, they produced the 71s - a 1" barrel, accepts 5 9mm rounds in moonclips. If you want one, just contact your local Mall Ninja (we're the ones with walk-on-wall boots).
I guess you've got the 86 model Glock Snubby, with the telescoping barrel?

Things may have changed in the last few years (4) since I retired, As far as Air Force military aircraft went the only ones that were typically armed were the aircrew or if the AC were to go into a airport, station, base or what ever you wanted to call it that had inadequate security provisions then you might have a couple of AF SF Ravens on the AC. Other then that the only ones other then the aircrew that are armed were mission specific individuals and US Secret Service Agents. All/most others were supposed to have weapons and ammo separated. (Like everything else in the military you might have a waiver to allow an individual to be armed in a specific fashion.)As a Loadmaster on C141s (8 years and 4500+ hours) I only remember one instance where we had an armed escort for a shipment of TS material, evan on PNAV missions it was the Aircrew that provided security in flight. As Security (14 years) we did post a cockpit denial team during flight but that was taking the “detainees” to Git Mo All other times if I traveled under orders with weapons they were locked up (checked baggage) on civilian aircraft and if on a military AC your weapons would be unloaded and any ammo was palletized and banded.
