Heading to Niagra Falls, ON - Knife laws?

Will be on the Ontario side of the border for a conference that my wife is attending. Just had the thought that my Kershaw might not be legal to carry there. Anyone know one way or the other...I use my knife so much I don't know what I would do without it, but the thought crossed my mind that it might not be kosher in Canada...

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what the law is but in July, I crossed at Niagra Falls several times and was always asked specific questions about weapons including guns, knives, and sprays.

Of course, Texas plates on my jeep may have triggered extra attention.

If your Kershaw knife is an assisted opening knife, they may consider that a switchblade. I would take a knife without a spring.

I live in Canada. (~ 10 miles from Niagara Falls). Any switchblade or butterfly is prohibited. If you can 'flick' it open by snapping your wrist it is prohibited - tighten the screws & it's now OK.

Kershaw assisted openers (Whirlwind?, Leek, etc) are legal in Canada as your are actually pulling on the blade to open it - not pushing a button. My EDC is a Kershaw Leek.

When you cross the border, if asked about weapons, you say you are not carrying any. Your folding pocket knife is not a weapon. If asked specifically about knives, tell them you are carrying your little pocket folder. (It is there to cut a piece of string, or a knotted shoe lace, or to cut your apple)

Mace or pepper spray that is used for the purpose of injuring, immobilizing or otherwise incapacitating any person is considered a prohibited weapon. You cannot import it into Canada. Aerosol or similar dispensers that contain substances capable of repelling or subduing animals are not considered weapons if the label of the container specifically indicates that they are for use against animals
Cheers,

R.

When I was at a training session in UP Michigan I crossed into Canada on several occasions. Most, but not all times they asked about guns, knives or weapons.

Each time I declared a "folding pocket knife" when asked. At no time did they ask to inspect or see it. (I was carrying a Benchmade Stryker with a 3.5 inch blade)
