The USSS
does not protect members of the U.S. Congress or those seeking election to that august institution. The exception, of course, is Senator Hillary Clinton, who, I believe retains USSS protection as a former FLOTUS, although she may have opted out of that perk. At any rate, as a presidential candidate she is (or will be) entitled to a protective detail.
The USSS protects Presidents and Veeps and their families, former Presidents and Veeps and their families (they can opt out, however), presidential candidates, and foreign heads of state visiting the U.S.
Vice presidential candidates are afforded protection after they receive their nomination.
