OR CWP Carry in ID
Hey all,
I'm going to be traveling to Idaho in a couple days, and I'm wrestling with whether to carry on my trip or not. I'll be traveling through WA which does not honor OR's CWP, so it'll be unloaded and locked in the toolbox for that portion of the trip, but ID does honor OR's. I've finally gotten to the point of carrying most everywhere I go, and would really feel much better bringing one with me, but am only hestitant because I haven't really studied ID's laws on the matter like I have OR's. Don't want to do something that's legal here without even realizing it's illegal there. Does anyone have a good simple source for ID's carry laws I could review before I go, or ideally does anyone know of any major difference between OR and ID law that I should be aware of, or should I just bring my OC spray and my lucky hat and cross my fingers until I'm able to study the laws better? Thanks everybody..!

Thanks!
JD, that was just what I needed. Looks like ID laws are nearly identical with very few exceptions. I'll be packin'..! Thanks for the fast info.

Are you sure Idaho honors Oregon's permit? Last time I checked on Oregon's website it said they did not honor anyones permit and theirs was not honored by anyone.

(g) Any person who has a valid permit from a state or local law enforcement agency or court authorizing him to carry a concealed weapon. A permit issued in another state will only be considered valid if the permit is in the licensee's physical possession. See section G below. Further more, while Oregon does not recognize any other states permit (as seen HERE), they have no bearing on what other states recognize, it is out of their jurisdiction to say what ID can and can not recognize. Your good to go in Idaho as already stated. On your way Through Washington, stop and apply for a nonresident license. Very simple, and mine came on the 30th day from Spokane.

Well, that just stinks about WA.
You could always open carry loaded... or carry it with you in the cab of your rig, just not loaded (have a mag in your pocket).I hear it's because the states WA doesn't recognize is due to the lack of mental health background checks. WA checks your mental health background when other states do not. WA has a short list of reciprocity guests. I wish it was like the LEO bill, where you can carry in all 50 states. It sure is convenient when traveling. ![]() Have a safe trip! |
