Come on, what happened? In his lecture at Thunder Ranch, Clint talks about hostage situations. His point was the only thing keeping the hostage and you alive is your gun. But once the hostage taker has you disarmed, he has you totally under his control. If you don't give up your gun, he may indeed try to shoot you or the hostage or both, but at least if you have your gun you'll have something to "say" about it. If you have surrendered your gun the very same thing may happen and there's less you can do about it. Clint's advice was never, never surrender your gun. Unfortunately that doesn't mean people won't be killed, but surrendering your gun doesn't protect them either. |

I have always believed that you NEVER give up your weapon if you have the option not to do so. Still, it would be a tough call if I (or anyone else I know for that matter) were put in the situation of having to make the call if a hostage were involved, especially a family member or friend. I'd like to think I have the guts to call the BG's bluff, but I'd also have to decide if I would be able to live with the consequences if it turned out he wasn't bluffing... damned if you do, damned if you don't!
