Local law is the most important issue.

It's easy for me: I don't drink, and I'm a colossal jerk, so nobody would invite me to go out drinking anyway

cant carry in texas if the establishment makes 51% of its profits from on prem.sale the cut off for DUI is very low. .08 a skinny guy like me would blow drunk on half a small beer. dont even want to have access to your weapons if you are drinking. so no locking them up in the car to go to the bar. stay armed stay sober stay safe.

I never drink while carrying. The wife may have a drink, but I will not. Not a good idea while carrying.

I agree with not mixing the two. If our law in Tennessee ever does change to let us carry in such establishments, alcoholic drinks for the permit holder who's carrying will still be proscribed.

FYI: Flori-DUH has rules about carrying and the types of estabishments you can be in....known as the 51% rule....

Also, when carrying...it's usually best to sit at a table when in a restaurant..... away from the bar.
There is no such thing as a 51% rule in Florida. As stated in a previous post, OK to carry in the restaurant area, but cannot carry in the bar area (even if just passing through to get to the restroom).

I'll have a beer or a glass of wine (maybe even 2) at dinner, but that's it.

We were in NM last year.....I'm glad I read up on their concealed laws before the trip. You can't carry in ANY place that sells alcohol. Not even the 7-Eleven to buy a soda, or pay for gas.

Here in Oklahoma you can carry in a restaurant that also has a bar, but you do need to stay in the restaurant area.

It is illegal to drive while under the influence of alcohol and the same should apply to carrying a gun - and any other lethal weapon or machine. That being said, I will go to a restaurant and have a beer or a glass of wine with dinner. That is not being under the influence, by any stretch of the imagination. So follows, when I go to a restaurant I carry. If I'm going to a party where drinking will be more than casual, then I would have to be a designated driver, because there is no condition under which I will disarm.
