Carrying in restaurant with a bar?

My apologies if this is another repeat thread; I can't imagine any topic that hasn't been covered already on this huge forum!

How many CHL carriers will have one beer while concealed carrying? I've heard a few folks on here who do not drink while carrying, but my instructor mentioned that he knows responsible folks who have no problem going to a nice restaurant, enjoying a cocktail, and not disarming. I suppose this would depend on a lot of things over all, but is there a general consensus?

Does the fact that the establishment is ONLY a bar or that it's a bar IN a restaurant make any difference to you? If someone were going to have a drink, probably safer in a restaurant in the sense that there would be a much less chance of a ruckus compared to bar.

In my opinion, it doesn't sound like a good idea either way. Curious if anyone can add some additional opinions.

Check your local laws.

In some States carrying in places that serve alcohol is illegal.

I carry at home when I drink a beer, but I cannot carry in a establishment that serves alcohol in my county. I can carry in a resturant that serves alcohol outside of my county

I hardly ever drink when out. But that was true before I got a CCP. Since people respond to alcohol intake differently, both emotionally and physically, the question I would suggest is what is your personal tolerance and do you modify your behavior when you are carrying.

I think it just depends on the state. In WA you're not supposed to carry into an establishment that is 21 and over only. I believe this is just referring to dedicated bars, and not restaurants that also serve alcohol. Personally I don't see a problem in having a beer as long as you know you can handle it, and it is within the law. Obviously you should not be carrying when under the influence / intoxicated.

I rarely drink however, only do so socially on occasion.

I agree with the others, check your state. In Va you cannot conceal carry in an establishment that sells alcohol on premisses. That info is available on the state police web site, in Va, anyway.

I never drink in public while carrying. I do however, sip a bourbon or a Johnny Walker or a beer occasionally at home. Always in the back of my mind is how a police report would look if I were involved in a shooting while drinking and how it would go down in court.

As others have stated, check you local laws. I don't think it would be a good practice to drink alcohol, when carrying out in public.

Drinking is an invitation, a social act. It makes brothers of strangers, and not infrequently, spontaneous enemies. Unless I am in my home, I avoid alcohol and arms like a bubonic plague/anthrax mixer.

Rule of thumb: if you have a drink in hand, someone will interpret it as "talk to me." It may be good talk, it may be bad talk. They may not like your answer. Why make the invitation?

+1...., But I also know several of my friends that will on occassion, stop off at the local cop bar in their area after their shift (while still carrying) and will have 1 maybe 2 drinks and don't see a problem with it.
