Sorry if this sounds like I'm probing, but, well, I am....

Is there something that is keeping you from carrying in public? Is there something about the idea that makes you feel uneasy?

I to feel like Cakewalk...what's holding you back?

My wife doesn't like the idea as of yet, although that doesn't stop me. Would rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. It does take a little while to get over the feeling that everyone is watching although unless you have a CCL, you don't think to stare at peoples waist line.

I got my permit and had only had revolvers and thats what I carried.. I didn't even know how to break down a semi-auto. I got an XD40SC and it took me a while to get use to the fact that it was cocked and ready to go. I wore it around the house and got comfortable with it really quick. After just a few days, I was ready to head out to the great outdoors.

As a "starter" myself: Carry around the house. Make sure you are comfortable with it. My main "fear" is it getting exposed by mistake. I think carrying around the house helps with that.

Another good mental exercise: Think about "what if" scenarios as you do your daily business. Would you draw if "x" happened right now. I think if you ever have to draw, it helps to have thought about a situation like that before.

Best advice is often the first advice.

Get comfortable carrying around the house.
If you don't think you can use it should you need to, leave it at home.
Use your head.
Train often.

That is all.

When to Begin Carrying?
If you're legal to do it-----yesterday. I'll jump on the wagon for around the house for starters though, then to the car wash, the burger joint, and Wal-E-World!

It is a bit weird at first. As someone else said, carry around the house. When I switched from carrying a Kel-Tec to a Colt CCO, I was worried about "being made"... I wore around the family for a couple of weeks to see how "noticable" it was. I figured if my family didn't notice, in such close proximity and around me all the time, that I would be okay out in the "wild"...

That's a bit different than the issue you bring up, I think... It sounds like you're talking safety. Can you handle it safely? I guess only you can answer that, but it sounds like you're telling us that you can.

After awhile, it becomes a part of your clothing. There are days when I may only notice the thing twice -- when I put it on and when I take it off at night.

That permit isn't gonna help you one bit if the reason you have it is locked up at home,we carry in case we need to use it and my crystal ball broke so i can't tell the future, you could walkout to check you're mail and get attacked by a pack of big dogs or a 2 legged predator.I carry 24/7 and 1/2 the time don't even think about it but i walk around in condition orange, bad things happen by the mexico border
