The rule should be expanded beyond 'keep your booger hook off the bang switch"...keep EVERY damn thing away from the bang switch unless you're about to shoot the dang thing.

Yup, pocket holsters are cheap. Doctors to patch the hole resulting from not using a holster are EXPENSIVE.

The economics (never mind the safety) are all in favor of using a holster.

Glad your friend is O.K. Given that he was reaching for the nitroglycerine, this accident could easily have turned into "the big one."

I don't know if it has to be fatal to win a Darwin Award, so maybe he's eligible for nomination....

To be up for the Darwin Award you have to remove yourself from being able to contribute to the gene pool. Whether by death or castration, you just can't be able to reproduce.

I don't think this guy would qualify anyway, sure it wasn't a good idea to pocket carry without a holster, but he didn't pull a "hey ya'll, watch this!" type of move either. Glad he's ok, and this has strengthened my resolve to get a proper holster for my LCP when I get it.

+1 Hotguns!

I for one can NEVER be reminded enough times regarding firearms safety. Most times the subject of a ND will even make the statement... "and I knew better too"!

Glad he is ok. I pocket carry a bunch...but never without a holster and nothing else in that pocket. Be safe.

I have pocket carried for about 10 years and I am a firm believer in 2 things......NEVER carry without a holster, and NOTHING else in the pocket, but the holstered pistol.

Very glad your friend is okay. USMC buddy asleep on couch, rolled over, and somehow the .38 in his pocket fired, into his leg. No medical complications but it was scary.
I carry a SP101 .357 in an open holster in my right front pocket so the trigger guard is covered, and I make sure nothing else goes in there, not even pocket change, not even a dime. That pocket is reserved for the holstered gun.
I don't think I would carry in a pocket without a holster except in a very dangerous part of town if I were on foot, and I had no choice but to be in that area.
And even then it would be just for that short time I was on foot there. Do not need to waste the extra time to get that gun out of the holster.
