IMO, the SOB holster would be easier to both stop draw from or take the gun from. I have never carried SOB as my dept requires active retention for off-duty holsters and I have never seen a SOB holster with active retention. I do think that the act of drawing from a SOB holster would be more noticeable and slower than from an OWB holster. Plus, drawing from SOB puts your arm in a chicken-wing position for the BG to exploit. Drawing from IWB or OWB at 3 or 4 o'clock allows you to lock your wrist out and fire from the hip. SOB carry doesnt allow that. YMMV

I am a wide guy and I carry SOB daily. I can sit in the car comfortably and I can draw from the SOB position (standing).

I'm no more worried about falling on my back than I am getting in a car accident and I still drive. A matter of fact, I have never fallen on my back in my entire life. You are more prone to injure yourself falling down pocket carry because SOB can only possibly harm you if you fall directly on your gun. Pocket carry can injure you in several positions.

I am so wide I really don't have a choice other than not to carry. I think you need to check yourself on how SOB feels, how does it conceal for you, how is your draw and how concerned are you about the chance you may fall directly back on your pistol and having possibly crush or shatter your spine.

For me, SOB conceals so well that I am not about to change.

I personally dont care for SOB, although there maybe some times it is right for you. I would carry at about 5ish if I did carry that way, and not plan to fall backwards. I much prefer strong side OWB with a jacket, over sized shirt or vest.

The real benefit of SOB is I don't need a jacket. An oversize shirt works fine. Just be aware of sitting and bending. I can sit fine in a restaurant, I just sit back in my chair with no problems. I think SOB carry has a lot to do with your body shape. I do carry at 4:30 at times, especially in the winter when I wear a jacket. In the summer I don't like to wear a cover garment.

I carry SOB on my HarleyI do...But let's call it SOB at 4:30...

Do I care what anyone thinks?..., in fact,...

Do I know 6 other people who do?

Is it comfortable for me...Yep!

Do I wrestle BG's, fight crime on a daily basis...

Do I fear a spinal injury? Not going to happen, but when I carry strong side I could suffer a hip injury!

Go ahead...I'm a man of steel...

************************************************

OK, continue with the practice if it works for you, it'll be fine...

Everyone touts the spine/back injury - but is there any evidence of this? I carry SOB at times. Like others have stated, sitting gets uncomfortable after awhile - like 30 minutes - and that might be stretching it some. It conceals well with the proper shirt. If I know that I will be standing most of the time, I will carry SOB. Just another option. In my opinion you are more likely to fall on your butt or to your side rather than being taken off your feet and falling square on your back.

Not for me, but if you like it, well it's your choice, if you accept the risks.

what a fun thread, sob is really out of favor with many people. I also would not typically choose it. Mostly because of weapon retention techniques. I know everyone says, "I don't let anyone get that close to me". Still if you are at some large event, you do not always have a say about how much personal space you can maintain. I would say my other reason is that if I have to fend someone off in the middle of a situation, I would no like to put a hand behind my back at the beginning of said confrontation.
