Well I was a statistic, so there's one for ya. And that was good enough for me. I got a second chance to learn from my mistake without ending up in a wheelchair! Read Post #10

Just because I didn't end up paralyzed, it was a spinal injury none the less. A flashlight was no different than a gun would have been.

Massad Ayoob IIRC wrote about a LEO who broke his back from landing on his handcuffs carried in that position when he got kicked off a chain link fence chasing a perp and landed on his back.

Oh yeah, I have chronic back pain now so who knows how much of that can be attributed to the prior injury 25 years ago.

My opinion... don't carry there and walk again another day. YMMV

(Sometimes those types of injuries don't make it to the public domain to be looked up by the general public... If you want to do research, I would call the Fraternal Order of Police to see if they have any stats for starters. For me, the stats aren't important. I'm a medic, I KNOW the dangers are real.)

I CC in the small of my back. When I do it's my 380 and not a brick so I have no problems or feel discomfort. Anything bigger moves to the side... but that just me.

by the by... I've known people having back problems from the luggage in their back pocket they call a wallet.

SOB carry is like any other method of carry. Some people like it, some don't. There has been a lot said about how it could hurt you if you fell down. Ask yourself, HOW MANY TIMES in the last year have you fallen on your back? Probably haven't if you're like most folks.

There are people who advocate not carrying SOB with a pistol because you tend to hit the mag release if you lean on something. Uhh, NOT if you don't lean on things. I tend to stand up when I'm standing up. Otherwise I'm sitting down. Do you lean on your weapon if it's at another position on your belt? Thought not.

Sitting is problematic. Not much you can do about it. It's uncomfortable, but then again, so is a 4 o'clock in bucket seats.

As for sweeping yourself, it depends on your body type, height/weight, free shoulder movement, etc. Lastly, it depends on if the carry feels "right" as compared to any other position.

I have carried SOB and have had no problems. It's comfortable, easy to draw, and keeps the firearm near my center of gravity. For me, it's comfortable. YMMV.

Well, I've seen these clips that can be attached to one's Glock that make it basically tuck like a Bic pen..this I would not do..one./.no retention, two, cold hard steel tucked into my crack, and last that clip will scratch the leather on my Denali seats...No thanks..but I have tucked with no Holster SOB, and it is the most comfortable for me..I don't even know my P13 Para Ordinance is there...even better when I wear my G23C. This is a "body type" issue in my book. 5 O'clock carry works great for me and is more comfortable for me than the 3 or 4 o'clock carry.

Depends on Circumstances

I will occasionally carry SOB but on those occasion my hip and kidney areas are covered by tools and test equipment. In those times it is the only place I can conceal.
